Was at the hospital yesterday as I became unwell. The doctor checked my ketones and everything was ok. He actually told me to speak to my gp on Monday as he thinks I might be type 1 due to my weight loss.Although very little is set in stone, you might like to keep in mind that weightloss is unusual for an ordinary type two, gaining weight is more often the case - though not all, as type 2 seems to cover several slightly different conditions.
Have you been advised to change your diet to lower carbohydrate - in the early days - for adults at leaset - that can help until in either helps a lot or stops being useful.
I am not trying to set riddles, just that sometimes it is very easy - as in my case, and in others things get interesting.
As a BG levels of 21 is rather high, have you some way to check ketones, and do you feel quite well?
Hi @Wales4+ Yes, Type 1 diabetes is much more likely than Type 2 when associated with weight loss. Was at the hospital yesterday as I became unwell. Do you mean GAD antibodies not GPAP?Hi @Wales4+ Yes, Type 1 diabetes is much more likely than Type 2 when associated with weight loss.
Your GP should see about getting you the 2 tests GPAP and C-Peptide in order to check which type of Diabetes you have. Although the treatments differ, there can be some similarities in lifestyle changes which can help.
Which diabetes medication(s) are you taking?
Every time you eat carbs your blood glucose spikes...so your pancreas has to squirt out insulin to deal with this because any more than 4g sugar in your blood is dangerous. Our bodies are not designed to thrive on carbs (certainly not processed) so I gave up carbs for 3 months to allow my broken pancreas to heal. Diabetes gone, high blood pressure gone, gout gone, arthritic fingers gone, skin rashes gone. Weight plummeted. Mood soared. Now I can have carbs now and again but I cant believe how much happier and stronger I feel with a diet where most of my calories come from protein and healthy fats. its so satiating I only end up eating once a day most days!I'm really struggling with finding out about my diabetes. My levels are still high been put into medication and checking my blood sugars daily. My level tonight is 21. Found out 2 weeks ago as I've lost weight that I'm a diabetic
