Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello everyone. I'm 59 years old and have been type 1 for 56 years. I was made redundant from my job 8 years ago, and I haven't worked since. I enjoy being a lady of leisure!! I swim 3 times a week, enjoy making cakes, cruise holidays and doing the quiz down the pub every Thursday.

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂 Wow, 56 years!

Hello, and welcome 🙂
56 years with type 1 is impressive - I bet you've seen a lot of changes in diabetes treatment over that time!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Welcome, glad you found us

I have indeed, and all for the better. When I was diagnosed in 1961 it was like living in the dark ages!! Very hard for my parents

Hiya! - can't compete with that, only 45 years so far LOL

There are a number of, err, how should I phrase this? - medal eligible folk on the forum so you're not alone! We've seen some changes alright some good and some not so - but one thing hasn't altered - they are STILL telling the newly diagnosed they're expecting to see a cure within the next 10 years!

Good grief! - and I've just seen a complete skein of Gloucester Old Spots flying across the back of our house towards Corley Services on the M6 !!

Medal eligible folk!! I love it. Yes, I can remember my dear old Mum telling me when I was a child "There will be a cure soon." I expect there will be one day, but probably not in my lifetime. Please excuse my ignorance (I'm a southerner), but what are Gloucester Old Spots?
