I have had urine samples tested twice in the past week as showing all the signs of a UTI, but I do not have an infection. The gp I saw today said that there was ?tons? of glucose present ? but my BG was 6.1 at the time of the sample and was 9.1 on waking so not that high. She also said that I am very dehydrated so am now having to drink 2 litres + of water (which I find extremely hard to do). I don?t really understand what is going on as I do drink, not loads admittedly, but I have a drink with each meal, usually one before bed and water in between when I am at work. I also don?t see why there was so much glucose? The gp said my diabetes needs to be controlled better ? tell me something I don?t know!

The last time I had a UTI, I had the exact same thing - nothing present in the urine to indicate infection, but a large amount of glucose, and like you, my BG was within range, and had been for several hours before.

My GP said that I had all the other symptoms of a UTI, and they don't always show up on the test they do, and also that excess glucose can be a sign of a UTI, so he gave me antibiotics and it cleared up.

Maybe ask to see a different doctor?

That's really interesting, thanks for your reply! It's nice to know it's not me going mad then 🙂. I think another gp visit is probably in order.

Tell them to go *** themselves. What the hell do they mean your diabetes needs to be better controlled . Your last HbA1c was 6.6
If a cancer patient was having problems would they tell them to go home and start controlling their condition better?

Your post actually made me laugh :D. You are so right though, I just think if they don't really know what is going on it is easier for them to blame the diabetes! Sad but true.

Oh Abi, the times I've very nearly done that.

Do people in Pembrokeshire regularly say that to their GPs? 😉

I have to say in general they don't
Most Gps I have worked with have a slightly more realistic idea (perhaps more imagination) as to what we are up against with type one.
I would perhaps say that sometimes they need to be- not condemning or hypercritical- but gently trying to push the patient towards better control

Hi

Just read your post and some of the replies on here. Hope you are better now? GP's can be SUCH hard work at times. I had to explain to my GP recently that there was a connection between high BS and infection so that I could get antibiotics!! I had to point out that although I understood his concern about longer term use of antibiotocs I was more concerned about ending up in hospital as my BS wouldn't come down unless the infection was treated. Whatever happened to lisetning to the pateint? Did it ever start? 🙂
