Type 2
went to doctors yesterday for the results of my blood test after having baby jared and dr confirmed i have type 2 i am abit gutted i kinda of expected it but was still a shock i have been started on 1 metformin once a day but they make me feel sick was on metformn when pregnant for a few week but that made me sick dr said to try it again for 14 days and she is making me a app at the diabetic clinic and with someone i think called starlight?which will talk me though the long term risks etc.
i feel really confused

Hi Stacey! - welcome to the 'permanent members' section of the club! - you need to change your profile to Type 2 now LOL

Why confused hun? Anyone who has gestational diabetes is at high risk of getting full-on diabetes for ever thereafter and they now test ladies on an annual basis after the birth to check up on it.

If your BG's 'went normal' after you had your son I expect that may have lulled you into a false sense of security - but sorry to tell you, quite a lot of Type1 mummies say they suddenly need hardly any insulin after the birth, and that can continue for quite a while, especially if they breast-feed. But then the beneficial effect sort of wears off and they are back to being how they were before they were preg.

Not what you wanted to hear I know ......

Hope all goes well with the diabetic clinic. Welcome to the club.

If the metformin is making you feel sick ask if it is possible to have slow release metformin as many people find it works better.

i was told not to check b/s sugars as dr wont take any notice of readings as it should go away i was on insulin while pregnant after stopping metformin , dr did say i had been boarderline for a few years which was news to me , i stuck really weel to my diet after baby and lost 19lbs

I'm sorry it did not go away after your baby, but don't panic Stacy it will be a breeze for you and you already know the do's and don't. like Caroline has said if the metformin does not settle down ask about the slow release xxx
