Tiffany will fit!

Hi hellbell - my wrist is 6 + 3/4 inches and I have a tiffany bracelet with tag - and there is lots of space inbetween my wrist and bracelet! I have my name on one side and insulin diabetic on the other of tag.
I have worn it for 6 years and never taken it off - and have done a lot of extreme sports in it and it's been worth every penny. That and I like it!

will purchase this bad boy then!!! this particular website seems very good in regards to the variation of medic tags that they sell, albeit a bit pricey but its good to know that you've had yours for such a long time, seems like money well spent though....
 
Ah! hellbell - Mine is actually a real Tiffany bracelet! These weren't available when I was looking! These are a bargain!
I have always disliked meditag jewellry and always worn just silver bracelets with an engraving. Everytime an ambulance has had to attend to me (about 4/5 times in 35+ years!) - they have always looked at my current bracelet and got the relevant info. It is my hang up - about wearing a meditag.

Admin, why did you need an ambulance, have you had bad hypos?
 
Yes! Once in a gym - once in an aqua aerobics class (I was on my own on both occasions!) and once after a hen night Although I told my friend what to do - she was one of those people who panics and called a bloody ambulance anyway!) Once I was at home, living on my own and was paralysed as bs so low but managed to shout to fabulous neighbour in garden below!
Entirely my own fault - ashamed to say! !

paralysed? that sounds really scary!! Do you carry glucagon? My friends wouldn't have a clue what to do!
 
I think I will keep my medic alert bracelet as my list of medication has been growing in the last 12 years. I had this one for 8 years now and got quite attached to it.
 
lol i know, which is why i'm leaning towards the the tiffany style one now, plus i'm 25 so can't really get away with the bling factor anymore! Apparently the tiffany ones will be in stock beg of next week 🙂 i want it now! Going to have it engraved to say type 1 on one line and diabetic underneath that and then possibly my phone number in case the paramedic is hot 🙂 x x

Not sure if this has been covered in this thread or not, Medic Alert offer free annual subscriptions to anyone in receipt of Disability Living Allowance.

You still need to buy they initial 'tag' however, there after the subscription is free as long as you continue to be in receipt of DLA.

Also any full time students, I got both my first year subscription and the bracelet (basic one) for free because I was at uni.
 
Ooooh, thats good!

I think its the best option/service, I'm not into wearing anything (jewellry wise, I'll save you the rest of the image!), but having the base information with me and the remainder a phone call away to a doctor or other healthcare professional to me is the best of both worlds.

The USB solutions where you have your medical records or whatever information on a USB dongle is all well and good, but if you loose it, can't just find it or someone can get into the information on it, they have all your private information and I'm really not comfortable with that security risk.

I bought the gold medic alert a good few years ago and have to say I am jolly pleased with how its lasted.
 
I'm a software development contractor, occasionally doing work for PCTs. Due to the loss of data through leaving laptops, USB sticks etc on trains, in pubs and so on, the government is having a crackdown on data security.

The NHS in particular is getting strict about use of USB sticks and only those issued by them AND with the correct encryption on can be read on their PCs. How far they have got with this depends on the individual trust.

So even if a USB stick today can be read on a PC in A&E it will shortly not be possible, unless that stick is issued by the relevant trust and encrypted to their standard (i.e. on a trust PC).

Given that this is being done by individual trusts, you also cannot guarantee that a USB stick from one trust will work on a PC at another trust either - and bear in mind that the PCT, the hospital and the mental health trust in the same are are likely to be three separate organisations now.

This makes a USB stick with medical information effectively useless I'm afraid. Nice idea but impractical.
 
medic alert bracelet

Recently bought stainless steel medic alert bracelet from Argos. It cost about ?12.50 including engraving.
I have Insulin dependant diabetic on the front and my name on the back.

I bought a medic alert gold pendant and chain a few years ago. It wasn't cheap but as I am wearing it for the rest of my life it looks quite good. It looks like a St Christopher necklace but has the medic alert logo on one side and my name and diabetic inscribed on the other.

As long as the medical authorities are alerted to the diabetes side then they can act on it. I am Type 2 on tablets but going to start once a day lantus on 9th April when I have seen the insulin experts as my doctor at the diabetes clinic calls them.
