Yesterday was Christmas day in our house so I confess I went for the whole deal, roast potatoes, mince pie, Christmas pudding with brandy butter, and Christmas cake resulting in a not unexpected 14.1 ( tested with two strips and two different meters)
Two hours later 5.8 again (two tests) and then this morning fasting test 6.1, the lowest morning score ever.
Can anyone explain what this is all about please.
I should explain that my morning readings are between 7.0 and 7.8, before meals under 6.5 and two hours later always under 7.5 unless I really eat something I really shouldn't and then I never go over 8.0.

If you have been eating low carb for some time (I am over three years now) then you might be seeing results like that as, for a while, you will be able to deal with extra carbs - but only at the cost of them being stashed away as fat.
My normal levels as similar, even a little lower these day of low carbing, and when I eat carbs I see lower numbers as I can go back to pouring out insulin no trouble - not for a little while, at least.

Sounds lovely @JMyrtle!

Perhaps your metabolism has such a shock with the sudden influx of carbs and high BG that it went into overdrive for a while.

In my early years on forums I used to hear about ‘reactive hypoglycaemia’ where some T2s bounce from too high to too low BG because their bodies suddenly overproduce insulin - but I don’t hear that so much these days.

Thanks everyone, readings all back into the normal levels (for me) now 7.3 on waking and 6.0 before dinner and 7.3 two hours later.

Years ago my GP told mee after a routine health check for my job that I could never develop diabetes because I produced too much insulin making my blood sugar very low.
How wrong he was!

you can get something called rebound in t2 from too low to too high and it will stop there for sometime. seems mighty strange that it would be 14 then 2 hours later back to normal readings. if mine goes too high it takes for ever to drop back down.
