OMG I’ve only just seen what happened! Surely Trump has to be held at least partly responsible for the violence, OK he didn’t tell people in so many words to storm the building, but he was going on about fighting for justice or whatever it was he said, and people took him a bit too literally! I knew he was an idiot but seriously, what did he think this would achieve? There are no words...
Why are people bothering to talk about impeaching him though, he’s only got two weeks left anyway, is there even time to do anything?
Congress could do a very quick impeachment & trial, if it wanted to. If successful, it would barr him from running for president ever again. Another reason for doing it would be to prevent him from using presidential powers for the next two weeks - who what kind of batsh*t craziness he might still get up to? I guess the final point would be to send a message.

Be surprised if it actually happened, but you never know. His favourability rating amongst law'n'rder Republicans will presumably have taken a major hit.

Because he would be disgraced, justifiable punishment for the appalling behaviour in inciting trouble.

No idea how a party actually gets rid of a member of it in the US - here in the UK for instance they can chuck you out and blacklist you - I imagine if you're say convicted of murder presumably all parties are required to blacklist you and of course if serving as an MP they withdraw the 'whip' - in which case you stay an MP but as an Independent not affiliated to any party and have no official voice in Parliament so if you want to stand for election again, all the overheads are down to your own pocket and you have to prove to the authorities you have the means to do so.

Plus it is illegal in the UK to incite a riot - why the hell is it not in the US?

Virtually everyone in and around the White House have by no declared that he is 'mentally unreachable' in which case I see no reason why he can't be physically removed in a strait jacket. I know they used to do this in England when Bedlam was in full operation so people could often invent stories and just lie to get you locked up and removed from bothering them and more, but legislation has evolved somewhat since those days.

Broadmoor to house the criminally insane still exists. Must be something like it in other parts of the world, surely to God?

He is playing a very fine line about winding people up to violence and then telling them to keep it peaceful. He has without doubt incited people to violence but you would struggle to prove it because he is covering his back by saying to keep it peaceful even as he continues to insist there has been a flagrant miscarriage of justice (voter fraud) against him and his (imbecile) followers.
It is scary and he needs to be removed from office pronto as this guy still has access to "the codes", but whether they will do it is anyone's guess.
I agree that men i white coats and a straight jacket would be the appropriate course of action! Or maybe sit him on a thrown on the beach like King Knut and let him rant at the tide/waves!
