Hi, I'm a 20 year old female, consider myself to be quite healthy however I have this really strong feeling I might be a type 1 diabetic. For the past few weeks now I've been feeling really really groggy and weak usually about an hour or so after I've just eaten. The only way I can explain it is it feels as if I can feel the energy or sugar from my last meal wearing off. I eat and I feel fine again, I usually eat something sweet or have a sweet drink and I'll be back to my normal self.

That is alls it has been up until yesterday. I don't really remember an awful lot of it but I was in my boyfriends and I become extremely hot and clammy and felt really under the weather. Usually I will slowly and gradually feel worse but yesterday it was like it all hit me at once. I remember opening the windows and lying down and that was it until I woke up to my boyfriend trying to get me to drink lucozade. He said that I had gone unconscious, he couldn't wake me up for a good 4 to 5 minutes and that I was breathing really heavily. When I woke up he said my speech was extremely slurred and that I looked like I had no energy to do nothing.

It was only an hour or so before hand that we had been for our dinner so I didn't understand how I felt so ill. My boyfriends mum is a type 2 diabetic and is constantly having hypos and my boyfriend said that everything that happened with me usually happens with his mum too which is a little concerning.

Looking up the symptoms today I actually have an awful lot of them, shaking, dizziness, frequent urination, stomach pains, feeling weak.

I don't know if I'm reading too much into it but I thought I'd ask people who actually have diabetes to get some factual feedback?

Any information or advice will be kindly appreciated x x x

Hello and welcome to the forum. My first thought is NHS direct as it may not be diabetes even though all the symptoms you describe are generally well known to diabetics. However if you do know a diabetic that has a blood glucose testing kit it is a simple check that may give a better idea until you see you GP. You will not know for sure until you have seen your GP so my advice would be to head there first thing in the morning, however if you feel very ill NHS direct or you local A&E may be the better option.

Once again welcome to the forum.

A hypo is normally when your blood sugars fall, so if you have just eaten they would still be high esp if its a main meal. We have the insulin to bring it down and it is when there is to much insulin compared so sugars that we have a hypo.

I have only been diagnosed for 3 weeks but the month before I was constantly going to the toilet, up to 6 times a night, I was drinking litters of water a day and not one drop stopped me from feeling the burning thirst I had. I had lost well over a stone and a half in a month, and I lost the silver in my mouth!

To me it doesnt sound like diabetes but I'm not medical expert. But I think it is something you need to get checked out. If you are worried, ask to used your bf`s mums blood sugar checker. It should be no lower then 4 and no higher then 9 at the most. Go to your GP or A&E if your really worried. I left it to long and ended up in a REALLY bad way.....Even if you go just for peace of mind!

Good luck with it all, and Fingers crossed you dont have it, but if you do dont worry you will be fine, getting the help you need is the biggest thing!

Let us know how you do!

As said above nhs direct or doctors.....sounds you need to get this nipped in the butt quickly.....what are your blood levels?

Hi Lauren, welcome to the forum 🙂 The symptoms you describe could indicate very high blood sugar levels, made higher when you eat, rather than lows. Please go and see your doctor about this as soon as you can. Let us know how things go!

Hi Lauren, please go to your doctors for a finger prick test at least if they won't take a blood test. It would be best to go ASAP if you can. Good luck x

Dumb Question I know, but as your were unconcious why was an ambulance not called?
As to your other symptoms best to get them checked out by a GP as we can't diagnose 🙂
Hope all turns out well with you.
