I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2005 while serving in the Royal Air Force and after suffering a major Multiple Scleroses relapse in 2010 my diabetes progressively got worse.
My GP had prescribed me with 1000 grams of metformin and 160 grams Glycoside to be taken daily. I was then prescribed insulin when my MS medication did not react well with my diabetes. My Hba1c blood sugar level had increased significantly to 12% /108 mmol. I was pleased to have finally come off the insulin in October 2019 and have continued to take the tablets.
In July 2020 while at home recovering from another MS relapse and self isolating during the COVID-19 Pandemic I decided to do something about my diabetes. I spent time researching online, books and watching youtube videos, using this info I started to manage my weight and noticed immediate improvements in my health.
In just 5 months I have lost 3st/19kg in weight and am now back to my ideal weight not seen in more than 15 years and I now feel much healthier.
To aid monitoring of my diabetes, I recently invested in a Contour NEXT ONE bluetooth blood glucose meter from the diabetes UK website and I cut down the carbs in my meals to about 70grams daily, this seems to have done the trick and now my weight is down to 13.5st/85kg and my Hba1c is now down to 6.1% or 43mmol and plan to reverse me diabetes asap.
I will continue to manage my diet by eating real foods, intermittent fasting and continue with my restricted exercise program while I recover from my recent MS episode.
