I'm sat here in tears (won't go into why), and I really fancy a pig out session on chocolate and a bottle of wine all to myself. Is this a good idea? It's probably not, but I feel like I need it.

What do you guys do when you feel the need to comfort eat and drown your sorrows?

Oh no... I hope it's nothing horrible...

I know this won't help... But when I get that feeling I always give in! But... If you look at how many carbs there are on the chocolate and cover it with insulin there should be no harm done...

Hope you feel better soon xxx

I find that if i pig out on something it dont actually take the problem away it just adds to it i have the guilt of pigging myself and then maybe the stress of then treating a hypo. I just think to myself is it really worth all the adding worry some people are diffirent and have the will power but we all have these days when we just want to forget we are diabetic and go wild , if you gave yourself a small amount of a treat or a pig out rather then going totally mad maybe that could be a solution

nothing bad, i'm just being stupid. Man issues.

I'm c**p with carb counting. Maybe I'll just get myself a chocolate muffin or something and a bottle. And keep an eye on the bloods

thanks

We all have man issues 🙄

Don't worry about being too accurate if you don't normally carb count... Just give yourself about a unit to every 10g of carbs. And yes, keep an eye on what's going on wiht your sugar levels.

Better than not covering it at all which is what I always used to do... If I didn't take insulin, it didn't count because I hadn't eaten it and if I didn't take my blood I'd never know how badly it affected me... This is an approach I would NOT reccommend x

Hi

Men eh !! (sorry guys - not you lot).

I hope you sort it out whatever it is.

Just for info a large American choc double muffin is about 65 to 70 carbs. At least with a bar of choc it has the carbs on the packet (normally).

Don't forget though a bottle of vino will take you down as well so many the choc will counter balance the wine !!!

God I really feel for you. I'm lucky and I don't have this problem, its my daughter that has the diabetes but listening to you all, I just know she will go through this as some point in the future. You can't even just feel p****d off without forethought and planning can you.

I hope you are ok.

Men eh? It's not even that big a deal, I'm just making myself into such a state. Stupid trains holding up the boyfriend and meaning he can't get back til tomorrow, and me getting really wound up and upset because I'd spent all morning and half the afternoon sorting everything out. I feel like such a loser heh

I've allowed myself a chocolate muffin, its not very big and I think I'll have it after dinner. I really want to sit down with a big box of chocolates but hey, we can't have it all can we. I doubt I'll even have the whole bottle...(i usually do...eep!), because i feel a bit sick right now.

Thanks guys

ok so maybe i won't be having any treats...just checked my bloods and theyre at at 17.4 O.o I dont understand why. I went low earlier and didnt have much at all, and havent had any lunch O.o

i HATE TODAY! AND I HATE BEING DIABETIC

sorry needed to get that out

It's ok! Anytime you need to rant... we all have days when we feel like that.

My comfort food is dark chocolate - I love Green and Blacks, but you can't eat a lot of it as it's so intense.

Also when I'm down I like baking things and eating them afterwards. Just made some scones (not that I'm feeling down today, just fancied them!) and had one with cream and strawberries... yum!

Hope you're feeling more perky soon.

Oh poor you. You might be 17.0 odd because you are stressed as well. I agree, damn diabetes and damn it to hell.

I agree. Probably high due to stress. Unfortunately, as Adrienne said earlier, you can't even get pissed off without planning it! I totally understand the frustration. Have you eaten any dinner? Or taken any correction units? (1 unit should bring your sugars down by about 3 mmol) Getting them down a bit will make you feel a bit better, if no less annoyed with it all. Keep venting though, hon, it's better than keeping it all inside!

I'm down to 7.3, but knowing me I'll end up going the other way. Hey, good excuse for the chocolate eh? Dinner is next thing on the agenda. And then watch some big bang theory to make myself feel better.

Glad you're back down. Be gentle with yourself tonight - tv sounds like a good way to relax. And hey, if your body needs chocolate, who are you to argue? 😛

When I feel the need to comfort eat (whick has been quite alot over the last few [****] months 😛) I just do it. Give my self a big does of insulin (sometimes i dont bother) and then eat whatever I want. It's not the best idea in the world but sometimes it has to be done.

i ended up eating dinner, having a MASSIVE chocolate muffin...and erm...a whole bottle of wine. I feel better (funnillyt) but sugars at 14. stupid sugars *sigh* best be better tomorrow

Hope you're feeling better today 🙂 I woke to a 14.5 without a chocolate muffin, so at least you enjoyed getting up to yours!! 😛

Glad I'm not the only one that drinks wine when I need comfort😉 It goes back to what I've said on other posts - we are only human and of course there are going to be times when we want to comfort eat, drink more than we probably should etc - but we are human first and not robots! I also really hope that you are feeling more positive and that the chocolate muffin was very yummy🙂

Hi Salmonpuff, I hope you are feeling better.

Every woman I know comfort eats at sometime or other. Yesterday I had a whole tub oc chocolate icecream. It made more sore throat feel better, so it was worth it. If it is not something that is done often, then it is OK.

It seems the root of most problems are men, although they say women are the root of all of their problems too. It is not the women who start the wars. At least we have these forums and lots of moral support and good advice when we need it.
