Hi Alli,

I totally agree that to deny yourself a 'treat' once a week or whatever will just make you resent the D all the more! Allow yourself a little leeway and be kind to yourself you deserve it 🙂

take care,
lv Shirl x

I was diagnosed just before christmas - and I have been having a little chocolate after workouts - but I'm surprised how little I've missed it (used to be a daily thing).

I finally gave in, we still have some sweets left over from xmas and ended up eating 7 😱 Sorry 😱 (not really)

I find this all so encouraging. I have tried hard to 'be good' and not eat things I shouldn't. I occasionally pinch one or two of my husband's chips :D and have started to have an occasional treat. I love the fruit crumble and custard in Wetherspoons... probably not exciting for anyone else but I love it. I have had one this week and will possibly have this as my weekly treat . It makes me feel better to see everyone seems to have the same problem !!

I usually have a treat on a Saturday and then have an extra long walk on the Sunday🙂

What a good idea, I must have my treat on a week night then I can swim extra lengths the next day!!!

I'm off swimming later (not allowed in with the over 50's) so that should be fun 🙂

We are allowed to have treats every now and again, the trick is to find something with damage limitations to it...

I noticed you mentioned cakes, jam doughnuts which for T2's on diet/oral mediction can be quite an hit on the system, so it's looking for something in similar line...

Eclaire or any bun with chouxe pastry, the pasty contains very little pasty and carbs, the chocolate is only a fine layer, and the large dallop of cream helps to slow down the hit... Total carbs for these are around 10-25g dependant on size.. But makes a lush occasional treat though..

Nice idea Ellie thank you

Ooooo Eclairs I love 'em, been craving them for weeks 😉 heaven . . . .

Well how different today has been from yesterday, I allowed myself some chocolate last night and today I feel on top of the world. I've been to the hospital for blood tests (op on the 7th) they've done my diabetes tests too. I've booked a 5 day break in the summer with 2 of the sprogs in Devon and I've had loads of exercise I parked a decent walk from the hospital and walked then went for a swim. To top everything off a young girl I used to babysit has just had her own baby today. WOW!

Glad to hear it Alison 🙂

I vote for the eclairs treat .... oh yes !!!

Mmmmmm me 3 but I had my treat this week and I usually have a McD's on a saturday as a weekly treat, maybe have a once a month extra treat of an eclair?

Sounds good to me. Couldn't we have treats every 2 hours or so ? or have I missed something here ?🙄

Glad to hear it Alison! Sometimes a little chocolate just hits the spot, huh?

Oh yeah Ann I sooo agree about the eclairs 🙂 heaven or what?

That may be borderline "taking the Michael" Ann.........would be nice though :D

no need to restrict yourself that much - just keep shoveling em down! - I recommend sitting in front of a conveyor belt with your mouth wide open!😛

I'd end up eating the conveyor belt too :D

sunburst

.....this game anymore, I don't want this thing called diabetes I just wish it would go away! I've been shopping this morning and now I am so depressed, Turkish Delight-not allowed Toffee Popcorn-can't have it Cream Cake- no no Jam Doughnuts-out of the question. It feels like my life is over, its not like I have these things everyday but I would like to be able to have them when I want them and just recently I WANT THEM!! Petulant I know but what do you guys do when you want something like that? What do you have?

Hello ALSONZ;216549,
I know,it can be a torment, I go through it every day too,but these sweets mars, bars, marzipan, chocolate, merang, fresh cream, ice cream, hot buttered toast with strawberry jam and so it goes on.I am a sugar junky but I only found out through diabetes.....and I battle with it every day...and probobly always will at the moment I am dry, long may it last.
