Thanks guys, you're all so lovely.
Just so annoyed at myself...especially as I've got to go back to my carb-counting course of Friday with a week's worth of results![]()
That's what I did. Bear in mind that if you take your normal dose tonight you'll have more active lantus than you would do normally in a 24 hour period, as some of this morning's will still be active overnight - normally all your lantus would have been exhausted ready for your next dose. For this reason, I set my alarm for 3 am so I could do and overnight check.
Just make a note in your records of what has happened. I think one of the things they try to stress on these courses is identifying where possible reasons for highs and lows so you can try and avoid them. You will probably get a sympathetic response from the others.
When I did a carb counting course someone had accidently injected their basal instead of a bolus - and it was just used as an example of where you could spot where things had gone wrong.
thanks Alan. I am planning on taking my normal dose at 10pm tonight. (normal time). Could I reduce my ratio for my evening meal and then reduce the risk of hypos? or would I still need to wake and test at 3am? thanks
thanks Margie. I know the group would be sympathetic, my worries are those not-diabetic. I seem to find those people's responses to be more along the lines of 'how could you forget to inject?????' but hey ho...I'll give everyone else something to laugh about, and I will ask what I should have done, so I will learn something! 🙂
Going to bed a bit higher would probably be a good idea, but I would still do the test just to make sure - having to wake up and test in the middle of the night might make the experience stick in your mind a bit more so you are less likely to do it again - I know it did with me!
It will be interesting to hear what advice is given, and I think your experience will prove very useful to the group. Like you, I wasn't sure what to do because it hadn't been covered on my course, I just went off what I had read - but on your course, people will now learn what to do! 🙂
Thanks guys, you're all so lovely.

I couldn't rememeber what I was supposed to do, so Alan and Mike - I took about half when I woke up this morning in a panic. No idea if that's right or wrong, or what I should have done....think that annoyed me too.
Great morning for feeling useless!!! 🙂 still, I'm having a D day off today. going to stuff my face and not care 🙂 (obviously I'll still inject but guess they're going to be high for the duration mostly).
Hi Katie. Agree with everyone else that we all forget to inject now and then and it's just a part of diabetic life. Not stupid, just human.
Not sure I'd recommend picking today to eat without counting. I tend be a bit old school maybe but rather than ignore the D, could you just have what you want, count the carbs and cover them with the appropriate amount of insulin ?
Don't want to see you getting poorly.
