I’ve been added to the shielding list

I hope to not be added to the list, as I cant work from home, and have just had a month off work due to having COVID,
The shielding is not mandatory, only advice. I have had 3 shielding letters to play snap with 🙂 As I'm a carer for a couple of VIP (very important pensioners) it's a tad difficult to shield.

I did! Once I clicked "Ok" (or Accept or whatever the button said) I had full access to the calculator.
Be aware it is a pretty blunt instrument and the results may be more scary than you want ... or not.
Thanks!

Thank you very much everyone. It wasn’t so much the shielding bit that upset me, I’ve hardly been out since last March, it was that ive been officially classed as clinically EXTREMELY vulnerable. That’s what got to me but I’m ok with it now because I’d always thought that I should be on the shielding list due to a range of health issues, medications and my weight,I haven’t received the letter yet but my GP record was updated yesterday morning with the following

High risk category for developing complication from coronavirus disease 19 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection (finding) (Y228a)information added online yesterday

i had to phone the surgery about something else yesterday and when I asked them what this meant they confirmed that it meant that the NHS had put me on the shielding list (not the GP).

Just to add that when I phoned Tesco last April and explained my health issues they put me on the priority list then which was a lifesaver for me.

This is what has happened to me, I haven’t had a letter yet either but saw the same wording on my record yesterday that was added on Monday and everything I saw online said that that meant I had been added to the shielding list. Nervous wait now to see if a letter arrives!

Where does this appear on your online record my only shows Summary Care Record , which does not even record my condtions?

on mine it appears under Patient Record which is different from my Summary Patient record. Like you there is nowhere online that list my different conditions.

My surgery does not allow access to Patient Record among other things such as Tests.

I’m sorry to hear this. Unfortunately it does look like you will receive the letter, dependent upon postal deliveries in your area.

I think there is a box you can mark to ask to ask for access to your full record.

Some letters haven’t been received yet. I haven’t had my updated one but expected in day or two.

I’ve just received the email as well. I think that I read that they are emailing letters if your GP surgery has your email address.

Hi
I got sent an email this morning and initial thoughts was that I will ignore the advice. I work from home but not allowed to do home visits during lockdown.
With more thoughts if I was added to shielding last summer would I have taken advice and stayed indoors. Would it have prevented me getting severe covid pneumonia and being in hospital. I don’t know. Probably not as broken rules and met with friends. This area high rate covid, high elderly and disabled, although met young fit and healthy patients in hospital too.
I’ve just started going back to supermarkets and will continue as that’s keeping me sane and motivation to go out.

I've also received the email this morning too, was quite shocked.

I've had the first vaccine, so not 100% sure ill want to follow it, I also don't have the luxury of family and friends near me, so I'm on my own anyway, so not sure there's anyone else I can turn to anyway for collecting prescriptions?

Hi Mark the guidance is to follow it even if you’ve had both jabs, but obviously it’s an individual decision. if you phone your pharmacist and explain that your on the shielding list they may deliver your prescriptions or your local council should provide help. Here’s a link to the government website that gives guidance about how to get further help https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...ng-extremely-vulnerable-persons-from-covid-19

Thanks, I appreciate this, I will give the pharmacy a call and see if they can help.

I’ve just received an email and I’m pretty shocked and upset if I’m honest. I just can’t work out why! I have gastroparesis, would that be enough? My BMI is low, 19 or 20 I think, is low BMI a factor or is it just higher? I’m a carer on a low income, but our postcode is generally ok
