You've obviously got a very caring GP - mine is writing the prescription as I enter his office .....

We have reached an understanding over the last few months. From being called obsessive for wanting a box of 50 strips each week, to now having 200 strips on repeat as required (but self-limiting as much as poss of course 😉).

But strip-gate has been an issue for many, especially type2s, who are often told they don't need to test, despite often being on BG lowering meds or needing to self monitor for highs.

NHS reforms are not about saving money though. Apparently.

I was told by a diabetes "consultant" (aka. alleged holder of an oversees medical certificate on temporary assignment in the Diabetes department at our local hospital) once that I could cut down the number of BG tests I do .... I think I was quite polite and courteous when I replied that that was a load of horlicks and how do you expect me to have a clue about my control if I don't measure regularly?
A previous GP (an fine example that there are good'uns out there) changed my repeat script to 300 test strips some years ago - thankfully, when I changed surgery, following house move, they took on my previous scripts/quantities without question.

My temp seems to do what to wants when I'm high, sometimes I get hot others I'm freezing. If I'm low (I do remember what that was like though it's been quite a while) I'd be absolutely freezing.

My battle for strips was quite an epic one, but I get as many as I need now, I'm getting through about 200 strips per month. I average about five tests a day, but it's not less than four and no more than 8.

We had a frightening thought this morning.

If the doctors find a correlation between BG and body temp., it could spell the end for test strips. We'll be given a thermometer and sent packing. 😱

If you're 1c below normal, eat a jelly baby. 1c over and inject 2u correction.

Come back in 6 months.

HAHAHAHA!!!!
