hypoglycemia symptoms in a type 2

It probably isn't all that low, but I think my bg's have been so high for such a long time it's a shock to my body. To add a bit of context my HBA1C was 119 in June last year. August 3 months later it was 51 and my next one is in March.

Yes this is quite a common experience for newcomers on the forum. It can take a little while for your ‘glucose thermostat’ to reset. It also seems to impact the onset and severity if symptoms whether your BGs drift gently from 4.3 to 4.0, or plummet from 8.5 straight down to 4.0 over a shorter period of time.

As @rebrascora mentioned, the standard advice is the ‘15 Rule’. Where you get BG below 4.0 you treat with 15g of fast carbs (low fat, high glucose), and then wait 15 minutes and recheck BG. If it is still below 4.0, retreat with another 15g of fast carbs.

Once BG is above 4.0 those on insulin or hypoglycaemic oral meds often find it is prudent to take some longer acting ‘follow up’ starchy carbs, perhaps 10g in carbs.
