Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I had my first ever hypo today... I mean it was only 4.9 so TECHNICALLY wasn't a hypo, but because it's the lowest my sugar levels have ever been, and only yesterday it was over 33, my body went into hypo mode... It was so scary I caused myself to have a panic attack... It's not been a good day.

Hi kerry.

Congrats on the (non-technical) hypo. :D

At least you now know what it feels like and you can keep your mind on the look out for it. You'll soon get tuned in to the early signs.

Are you on MDI now ?

And do you know what caused the 33 ? And did you correct ok ? That sort of level needs very prompt action to bring it down.

I'm rambling.🙄

Rob

There was no cause whatsoever for the 33. I ate perfectly normally and injected normally but it seemed to spike for no reason O.O My nurse seemed to think it's because she didn't recommend a high enough dose of insulin but it was fine for a few days before that. I don't know why. I took an extra shot and brought it down to 22, so it was still high.

I'm on my four injections a day now. Three of NovoRapid during the day and one of Levemir before bed.

If you were stressed, it will normally send your BG up. Combined with a recent meal and it can shoot fairly high.

Are you carb counting (adjusting your dose to match the carbs in the meal) ?

Rob

Deeeefinitely stressed. So very very stressed. That'd explain it.

I'm not carb counting yet, no. I have an appointment with my dietician on Friday to start it :D

You should find that the wild and crazy highs will disappear after you get the hang of carb counting. But the stress will always send you up.

If you find any practical help for your situation (if any help exists), it will do you the world of good in the long run.

I hope things improve for you really soon.

What syptoms did you feel for your hypo btw ?
