Hi all I've had a hypo for 4 nights on the trot between 3am-5am but I can't remember if I lower my evening novo ratio or my evening levemir?
Thanks 🙂

What level are you going to bed on Emma? If it was me I would lower the levemir as this is what will be acting during the night. How long before bed are you injecting your novorapid? For me this lasts around 5 hours, so if I went to bed 4 hours after eating/injecting then it is likely that my levels would still be falling after I'd taken my bedtime reading and gone to bed.

I usually eat between 5.30-6.30 on a 2:1 ratio (recently increased from 1.5:1) and bed is between 9pm-11pm Im on 26 levemir recently increased from 24 as my dsn advised so I'm not sure which to change but it needs to be one :(

I would be guided by my levels at bedtime in that case. For example, if I was around 5-6 3.5 hours after eating/injecting, it's more than likely I would have a hypo later so I would have a snack (something like peanut butter on toast) to keep my levels up overnight. On the other hand, if I was 5-6 5 hours after eating/injecting and hypoing then I would suspect the levemir needed reducing.

Of course, things are complicated for you because of your pregnancy, and I think it's quite common for insulin requirements to drop initially, then increase dramatically later in the pregnancy. I would go through the options with your DSN, and also set the alarm for 3am to check for hypos. Are you being woken by the hypos, or are you checking already?

My insulin requirements droped overnight aswell. Even now, I'm waking with hypo's on occasion. (Think I'm about 5 weeks ahead of you)

I'm a little concerned that you were told to increase your doses... Were you having problems with highs during the night?

I would as Northerner suggested droping the Levimir by two unit and keep a close eye on it for a few days.
You may in a few days need to drop your evening ratio back down.

🙂

I remember when I was pregnant I had to have a night time snack the whole way through. I had a small bowl of cereal every night or I would go low. Maybe you need the same
