Hypo binge

As with everything else, we are all different. I have no interest in food when I am hypo so my problem is the opposite - how to stop myself binging when I am high.
But I also make sure my hypo treatment is definitely a treatment not a treat so I am not tempted to go back for more.

Sometimes I don't!! I have noticed with using the Libre I'm able to head off a hypo with a few jelly babies and keep much more in the target zone whereas with only fingerprick or how I was feeling I was more likely to go much lower and stuff my face.

I think my problem is I gone into a zone where I want it to stop and I know food does it even though it doesn't need to be much. Going to take practice.
Hyper yeah, you wouldn't believe that could make you eat so much x

I'm practicing lol

I have my hypo treatment ready portioned in packages and I consider it medication. You wouldn't have 10 paracetamol even if you had a blinder of a headache, so 3 Jelly babies or whatever is what I take for a hypo. If it is a minor hypo I take less. Sometimes I get that feeling of being so hungry I feel like I could eat a scabby horse, but rarely these days. Even if I do, I hate being high more than that urge for food so would rather undertreat as overtreat a hypo. It helps to occupy yourself to distract from the urge and I find it usually passes quite quickly.

Maybe eat some cheese or something once you’ve had your 3 jelly babies, so your brain thinks you’re eating but it won’t affect your blood sugar? I’ve heard someone suggest that before.

I do mini bags of haribo. Again already portioned and approx 20g of carbs. Occasionally if I feel it is taking too long for the bg to return to normal I might have a small glass of milk and then deal with the consequences at the next meal time.

It can be hard not to binge but I am aware of the risk of my blood glucose going too high and it's that thought which I'm finding is enough to stop me dead.
That might not be enough for others but for now it's what keeps me steady.
Having said that I've been largely avoiding hypos over the last few weeks.
Only a mild one at 3.5 yesterday which I resolved with a half cup of fruit juice.
I then gorged a bit on cold meat and that satisfied the food frenzy without sending me high.
I have a bag of grated cheese for the same purpose.
And some nuts.
Just not all at the same time. 🙂

Is that ok whilst treating a hypo?
I genuinely don't know rather than politely suggesting it is a bad idea.
The fat from the cheese may delay the digestion of the sugar from the hypo treatment. I wonder if it is like not treating hypos with chocolate because the fat delays the digestion.
I guess it depends how soon after the hypo treatment when you eat the cheese.

You can get around that by having the cheese once your levels have recovered.

ETA. Just noticed you've already suggested that in your last sentence. Doh! Old age!!!

With difficulty! Your body is telling you to eat everything and anything. Like @rebrascora, I have jelly babies parcelled out in mini self seal bags, and I check my watch so I can wait out the 15 minutes before I check my BG again.
I struggle with this too. o_O So now I tell myself I have two options - either a small carton of orange juice (Don Simon’s 125ml oj is spot on) or an M&S jelly sweet (JBs don’t raise my BG quickly enough). And, as @Robin says, patience...

It helps when you know someone will be paying attention to the results!

As I am currently testing and noting all the time to help with investigations, I have been very careful to keep to the right amounts so I do not have to answer for why my levels went up too much. Though it is probably also why the other day was the first time I have treated a hypo and it had barely moved 15 minutes later. Grr.

I ‘practise’ in advance - that is, i know in advance what I’ll eat if I’m hypo. I use Dextro or Coke or sweets, and take my portion out of the packet and put it on the kitchen top or in my hand if out. I can then eat just that rather than stand at the cupcakes and suddenly realise I’ve eaten three :D

If I can, I also sit down away from the kitchen and occupy myself with my iPad or phone.

But it doesn’t always work, and I don’t stress about it. I just move on. We’ve all done it. X

I use something pre portioned. Ideally the 150 or 200ml juice cartons, but sometimes the mini bags of sugary haribo (the orange packs) as they’re easier to keep in my bag.

I haven’t had the hypo hunger for a long while, but oh how I used too.
I’d stuff my face from the fridge or cupboards lol.
I realised it was not good for me and it took an awful lot of willpower, plus nail biting .
Not to head for the grub.

I did it by having my hypo treatments etc beside me, so I didn’t have to get up.
Now I find I don’t have to do battle with the hypo hunger .

I have a small carton of juice rather than eat to help with this....It's once I start eating I find it tempting to carry on, so drinking juice (whilst sitting on my hands!) helps to counteract that.

It’s so hard sometimes!! Trying to stick to the 15 rule (15g of carbs and wait 15 minutes) can be like torture 😱

And especially tempting to retreat if wearing a sensor which is wailing at you because it‘s still 10 minutes behind!
