Hi, found myself in a new and slightly worrying situation.

Tested my blood expecting it to be quite high and it’s actually 3.1 😱 Tried a different finger and yep still 3.1. I have never been hypo at bedtime before and not sure what the best thing to do is.

I have treated the hypo obviously, but what else can I do to stop it dropping further ? Is it safe to take my basal insulin ?

When you say you have taken your hypo treatment, I assume you have had 15g fast acting carbs which hopefully has brought you back up after 15mins. If you are not back up above 4 then another 15g fast acting carbs should be used and test again after another 15mins. Once you are above 4, then about 10-15g of slower release carbs like a digestive biscuit or a slice of wholemeal toast with some cheese or peanut butter.
Have you been particularly active today? Or do you think you miscalculated your evening meal carbs?
If it is possibly down to activity I would probably drop 1 or 2 units off my evening Levemir, but yes, definitely take your Levemir.

Depends what's happening. Presuming you had your last bolus over 4 hours or so (so that's gone) then just treating the hypo should leave you OK. And maybe you just misjudged that meal or something?
Is it safe to take my basal insulin ?
Yes, and you really want to do that (or you'll go high which'll just be annoying to handle tomorrow). As @rebrascora suggests lowering it a unit or two might be sensible. (With exercise I sometimes find I'm going low over that night or even the night afterwards, so sometimes I lower the Levemir by a unit or two and that works out OK.)

Thank you both @rebrascora and @Bruce Stephens 🙂

It could be a mixture of both if I’m honest, today was quite active compared to normal. Thought I calculated the meal right but maybe not.

I had 1 digestive just to be on the safe side, and knocked 1 unit off my Levemir

Hopefully we will be OK in the morning, once again thanks for your help and apologies for the slight freak out 😳
