Im new to this.Started insulin 4 weeks ago. Finished work late tonight and didn't engage my brain. I ended up having a hypo. Anyone else face these challenges? Quite frightening and afterwards I'm hot then cold and I get a headache.Just starting to feel better.

Welcome to the club, sorry to hear that, and yes, they are par for the course if you don't remember to either adjust insulin or food. It gets easier as you get used to what your body does, don't worry.

Are you on a pump or MDI, what exercise were you doing (and for how long) and did you eat before/after?

Exercising with IoB can be tricky until you work out what response you'll get - I tend to reduce my bolus for supper to ~2/3 of normal before playing badminton in the evening (1h30), if riding during the day I'd eat e.g. a sandwich without taking any bolus. If I'm doing long rides I also adjust my basal (MDI.)

Im on a mixed insulin at the minute. I play golf on my days off.But tonight I worked till 6 forgot to eat and went in our gym for 40 mins then a sauna and spa. Just completely forgot to eat before the exercise.
5 dextro tablets got it back up from 3 to 6 but it's left me shaken. It's an emotional rollar coster at the minute and I'm not liking it but I know im not alone. Now I'm worried I will drop in the night...
Thank you for your reply.

Do you take the mixed insulin more than once a day (e.g. pre-meals)? Or is it once or twice a day. In either case, but especially the latter, you need to eat at certain times as the longer acting component is still active across a large part of the day.

Probably a bit late for this evening now, but if in doubt have a bedtime snack and err on the side of running high temporarily. It's not great but doing it once in a while, while you work out how to get things sorted, isn't the end of the world.

CGMs are good for concerns about overnight lows, presumably you have or will be offered one of these soon.

Move to MDI (basal & bolus) ASAP would be my advice to make life easier and more flexible.
