The fact you had breakfast would have made no difference to an HbA1C test. At your age that looks like a sensible level to be as newer NICE guidelines suggest higher thresholds for diagnosis anyway.A funny story: I had a blood test at 2pm and therefore I had breakfast (I wasn't advised no to). I also came across about an article that suggested that my age of 70 it's possible that my pancreas isn't providing sufficient insulin.
