Good idea to ring the helpline but ring 111 too. You could also ring or econsult your surgery and leave a message for the nurse/GP to say that things are getting bad and you have ketones and are considering going to A&E. If ketones get any higher, head to hospital. We are getting towards the weekend now and you really don't want to end up at A&E on a Friday night, when it can be quite chaotic, so keep a close eye on things and go early if necessary.

That level of weight loss without meaning to really needs looking into Jenny :(

Are you eating lots of fats to try to up your energy intake? 1800kcals perhaps isn't enough for you at the moment?
This a.m it did one of the sudden weight loss. Now teetering on 7 stone.

Sent E consult message will contact 111 if nothing comes of that before lunch. Thanks

Insulin at 1.45. Partly my ignorance but this coulda happened in 2021

econsult your surgery and leave a message for the nurse/GP
Please bear in mind eConsult is not available in all surgeries.
They may have something similar of may not have anything along those lines.

For example, during covid, my surgery introduced a service where you could complete a form online and then get a phone call the same day. This has now been replaced by a daily walk-in service. They have never offered an eConsult service.

Econsult is good here. I got an appt for 1.45 at the partner practice for INSULIN. I dont get on with this nurse but hubby coming too. I will be sweetness and light but absolutely firm about what i do and dont do.

So pleased you got an appointment and you are going to get insulin. Phew! Please let us know how you get on..... and good luck with biting your tongue with the nurse!
Am I right in thinking you have had insulin before?

Hi, 10 days into 1 insulin injection per day. Readings have fallen from over 20 to 13.4 (B4 eve meal today) My guess is that the insulin will rise to 18-20u before readings are regularly below 11.
Im enjoying the base1800 meal plan , Tasty - with my own additions Im hoping my weight will rise shortly .
We handled the Nurse (phone) , Being deaf I can or hubby can relay prearranged queries between us in situ. We now have a working relationship with DN. 😉 We can contact whenever needed 😎

see forum query . Type 2 plus insulin .

In your shoes with an abnormal GAD test, rising levels even with low carb, low weight, weight loss and now insulin ask for a referral to an endocrinologist.

You sound like a classic LADA on the face of it and I cannot understand who (or why) classified you as type 2. Was it purely on that c peptide because nothing else suggests type 2 to me and it’s hardly conclusive in early LADA. It matters even now you are on insulin because as a type 1/LADA you get a specialist team and access to diabetes tech a type 2 simply doesn’t even when on insulin.

. I am moderately thirsty, need to wee immediately ,when the urge arises.
This and your weight loss are big red flags to me. I had both of these symptoms (you’re the only person I’ve read who described the common symptom of needing the toilet more as being “immediately when the urge arises” as I was!) - I’m diagnosed Type 1. Glad things are getting better for you but I really hope you get the help and diagnosis confirmed soon. ((hugs))

Hi, I had to see my GP over something other this week . We had a chat about travel insurance. She called my condition Type 2 with insulin. She said i was an usual case, with a smile. Im expecting her to contact me again, so I'll double check. The dietician I employed, discovered the need for background insulin . I'll see how it goes and for how long.

Being an unusual case is another reason to refer you to someone who specialises. Has anyone explained why they have labelled you type 2 despite the antibodies and weight etc ?

Hi I'll pause this for a bit. My doc has discovered something else which is being explored.... she's contacting a specialist before referring me. Renal dept.
The weight loss began b4 the diabetes I had an OK Ab1Hc, 8m previously. I always assumed the weight loss was connected .

I hoped someone else had had the insulin for Type 2 . It does happen Ive been told this by an independent person. And A friend with medical background is having similar issues, tho different again

I was quite surprised how many people who are Type 2 do take insulin, maybe they just haven't seen you post yet.

A rapid increase in hba1c is also not typical for a type 2, though more common in type 1/LADA.

The weight loss often proceeds or instigates the diagnosis. Type 2 more commonly gain weight not lose it (It can happen though if they’ve had it a long while, presumably without prior hba1c or it would have been found, and it is very high)

Yes, type 2 can be prescribed insulin and it’s not uncommon.
