Humulin M3

Hi y'all
I have been put on Humulin M3 since April 12.2019, I started at 10mg, morning and evening, per day, however, I cannot get my Bloods under 12, they range from 12 to 20. I have increased my insulin to 20mg x 2 , I constantly feel nauseous, I also take 2 mg of metformin per day, should have just go with the flow and hope my bloods reduce its self...any information would be gratefully appreciated...

Hi. Are you having a lower carb diet and what is your BMI? My reason for asking is to cover the possibility that you might be a late onset T1. Insulin rarely causes nausea but Metformin can cause some stomach/bowel problems. You could ask to be moved to the Basal/Bolus insulin regime (two insulins) which gives better control

Hi, DaveB, I follow a low carb low fat diet, rarely eating carbs at all. in February 2019, I was put on Trulicity and my HBA1c rose from 85 to 97, I couldn't cope with that, so they put me on Humulin M3...don't know what my HBA1C is at the moment tho'...I must admit, I've never heard of a late onset T1 before. but at the moment, I feel I am just increasing my insulin every 4 days in order to reduce my bloods.

Are you mixing the insulin correctly in the pen before use? I ask because it's surprising how many people do not realise they are meant to roll the pen in their hands to mix the two insulins together.

Also how long before your meals (breakfast and evening meal) do you inject the insulin?

Hi Pumpe_r Sue, yes I roll the pen for about 1 minute. I inject the 1st between 05:30 and 06:00 and then for my evening meal, I inject the 2 one between 16:30 and 17:00, I leave it for about 30 minutes before I have something to eat. I was told by my Diabetic Nurse to have a minimum of 12 hours before I take the 2nd insulin.

Sounds as if you are doing all the right things 🙂 So now it's just a case of increasing your dose until your numbers come down to a normal range.

Do you test before your meals and two hours after your meal? This will give you a better idea of what is going on. Also a before bed reading would be good as well as this then tells you what effect the insulin is having overnight once you have done your before breakfast test.
