Hope it's acceptable for me to join this site, as I myself am not a diabetic.
I thought it would be good for ideas to help.
Regards
Nicky
P's. He's type 2 insulin controlled.

Hi Nicky, yes of course it's fine - welcome to the forum 🙂 How long has he been diagnosed? Please feel free to ask any questions you may have 🙂

Hi and welcome Nicky - ask away!

Hi Nicky
Welcome aboard, we have lots of people who care for or love a person with diabetes (parents, partners) so make yourself at home 🙂

Welcome to the forum, Nicky Gillespie.
Of course, anyone connected with diabetes is welcome - including your husband, if he'd like to join.

Thank you. He's had diabetes for a good few years, he was tablet controlled. Unfortunately he didn't look after his diabetes very well. So now ( after being admitted to hospital with blood sugar levels of 29.2) he's on insulin. He's lost a few stones in weight. Hopefully now we will get him under control.

Hi Nicky, welcome! That's good news about the weight loss, hopefully it will continue.

Is he the cook in your house or are you? (I'm shopper, cook, bottle washer and dryer-upper all in one!)
Either way it would be worth looking in the "Food/carb queries + recipes" section of the forum for some inspiration.

Since my diagnosis I have changed a lot of my day to day cooking, looking to reduce on the foods that spike my blood sugar. It can be tough to change old cooking habits, but there are lots of good lower carb recipes out there, and whilst some have only been cooked once, many have become family favourites. Do let us know how you get on

Welcome Nicky. You'll find lots of support here.

Where can I get one?? Lol!

Welcome to the forum, nicky 🙂

Welcome! to both you and your husband. there is a load of information & encouragement on this forum

I am 65 and have been diagnosed with T2 since 1998. Originally on tablets, now on basal - bolus insulin

My blood sugar control is fair - it never is as good as your nurse would like! but I've just had my diabetic eye test with no problems, and as far as I can tell I have no other complications
Once the blood sugar is controlled, you feel much better, physically and mentally

Best Wishes Zuludog

Thank you all. I'm the cook lol so it's up to me to find the low carb recipes. It's not good that he's lost loads of weight because he couldn't afford to. I'm hoping he puts some on lol.

Nicky, it's quite possible that, now he is on insulin, he will be able to stabilise his weight better. Paradoxically, people often lose weight when their diabetes is not well-controlled because much of the energy from food cannot be used properly and ends up getting peed down the pan 😱 Because the body can't use the energy from food properly it starts to burn body fat and other tissue and you lose weight. Injecting insulin provides the means to use the energy better, thus helping to stabilise the weight 🙂
