How to manage Blood Sugar/High Blood Pressure & High Cholesterol?

Thanks @zuludog - found my machine today and just tested
Will do this daily in the mornings - picking up blood glucose monitor later so will do both daily from tomorow and track

Thank you!

Hope the changes you are making gradually have a positive effect on your numbers @FitatFifty

I was interested that when my GP surgery asked me to provide a BP reading recently, the instructions were to take several readings in succession (and wait a minute between each) and to wait until the readings had more or less settled and become consistent.

The final reading for me was quite a bit lower than the first!

A pharmacist recently recommended getting the medication as most people never do make enough of the changes needed to stop the damage so suggested controlling it via meds first and then work to go into remission.

Would it make sense to check blood pressure and blood sugar a the same time?
Best not to be one of the 'most people' if you can.

In the weeks after my diagnosis I was told to check my BP twice a day, but it's been mostly normal, or just over the line into that zone known as High Normal, for ages now so I only check it once a week these days.

Thank you - I hope so too! Thats interesting re your BP measuring.

My eyes have been massively stinging and hurting last couple of weeks - wonder if it’s due to high BP or the diabetes? just had new glasses

Never would have considered that before but they hurt a lot

Suggest you go back to the optician as a matter of urgency. If yours is not equipped to do retinal scans and show you the condition of your eyes and their blood vessels on a screen, consider moving.

Thank you will call them this morning
It’s scrivens - had a test a few weeks ago and all was ok but will ask them to do the retinal scan

Diabetes or not, have your eyes checked asap!

It would probably be easier & faster to see an optician than a doctor at the moment; besides checking your vision, ie that you can read a chart, opticians also check for other problems with the eye itself

Did your optician know about your diabetes diagnosis when you went for your eye test as they don't usually and shouldn't prescribe a new prescription for those newly diagnosed as the eyes can change.

Presumably the eyes are not red or discharging - conjunctivitis or iritis? No change in eye makeup - allergy?

Definitely see someone asap! Not everything is the diabetes.

Yes I did tell them but needed varifocals so had to change prescirption.

I had the diabetes screening check last year and it was ok with no concerns - trying to get through to them today to get another one booked in as my opticians have said they don't do the retinal scans - big high street chain.

thank you! no nothing else, normal eyes and no eye make up or contact lenses - just late night and poor sleeping and far too much time on the laptop and phone. I have dry eyes anyway so hoping it's just tired eyes and getting used to the new varifocal glasses.

Am trying to get through to the diabetes screening opticians to see if they can fit me in

thanks everyone - I've been far too lax about my health for too long that i get used to just living with things rather than dealing with them proactively!

You can get a spray to apply for dry eyes from the pharmacy or optician.
My other half finds sleeping with a eye mask helps with his dry eyes. There is also a condition called blepharitis which can cause sore eyes. You can get special wipes for that.
