Some people thought I was female because of my avatar, which is actually Amy Lee from Evanescence! I am a 47yr old male.

I'm loving this thread!

Monica, I thought you were 'Home Counties' through and through even after meeting you although I agree a bit of Yorkshire in there occasionally, which was no surprise considering where you live. I was gobsmacked to discover AFTER the meet that you were actually Swiss!

And no I have no idea what I'd expect a Swiss person to speak like, really, except those I've heard before are either a bit French, a bit Italian or a bit German sounding, depending on exactly where!

When Alan introduced himself to me (I didn't know he was meeting us at New St so wasn't expecting him; the person I thought was sposed to was Brighton Tez and I thought 'He doesn't look much like his Avatar' LOL) and of course I wasn't to know which bit of Northern was involved - until he spoke!

And for precise info, not that anyone would care (except me LOL) it's a West Bromwich accent - so it is neither Brummie nor Black Country - but a mixture of both. Although I lived in Worcestershire far longer than Staffs. And now live in Warwickshire ....... Up the Baggies! :D

I'm 24 and I joined this forum when I was 21 but I think everyone thought I was much younger. Someone made a comment to me along the lines of: 'you young people ought to make sure you test regularly at night, especially if you're going to do an all nighter'. I couldn't help laughing! I'm married, I'm a pharmacy technician, I don't drink and the most exciting thing I do in the evening is stay in and watch DVDs! lol 🙄

I'm sort of wondering how I gave that impression??!!! 😱

Oh? I thought you knew!! I have mentioned it a few times

Yes, I should have a swiss-german accent, I'll put it on for you next time we meet 😉

LOL, I'm interested. I did put the questionmark for exactly that reason. I didn't want to upset you by saying you had a brummie accent when it isn't. What's "Up the Baggies"???? I'll have to google that - see what comes up.

21 is still young!!!😱 So I guess whoever said that thought all young people (including 21 year olds) go out boozing.

You sound like me, I never much liked alcohol or going out - still don't

Nooo I don't like going out very much - it's too loud, I can never hear what anyone is saying! And I can't dance, and I'm a bit of a health freak so alcohol scares me lol! 😱

It's OK, I'm not asking for your actual ages! Just that this was a question I was asked at my meeting with DUK and I found it really difficult to answer! Despite the fact that I have been with the forum since it started and probably responded at sometime or another to every single (real i.e. not spammer!) member, I find it very difficult to say that the membership is tilted towards any particular age group. We probably don't have a lot of members under 18, it's true, although we do have a lot of their parents! And we have people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s with, I think, a fair representation from each decade.

Am I right? How do you perceive the forum membership, or is it something you've never really considered because it doesn't seem to come into it? I'd be interested to know people's thoughts 🙂

I ve never thought of the age in here before, i have always had good advice dispite the age of the person who replied... I have trouble accepting I'm over 40 ok then 50 In my mind I'm still 21 but my body laughs at me.
I can't wait to retire so i can get up at 6 o'clock in the morning and drive really slow so everyone else is late for work :D

That's exactly why I don't like going out to pubs - too noisy, can't even hear myself speak!
OMG you should see my OH dance😱 He's hilarious.
As for alcohol - I just don't like the taste. If it's not sweet I'm not drinking it. I know there are sweet alcohol cocktails out there, I've tried them.

I'll be 24 in April and I've been using the forum for over 2 years I think. I don't think about ages when posting here, I think it's more about everyone's experiences and sharing thoughts, ideas etc.

hahahaha this is hilarious!! I do often wonder if some retired people do this on purpose!! all day to be in their cars and they go out in rush hour and drive really slowly lol though saying that, when I get there, I'll probably do it to wind everyone else up lol
