How old are we?

I am 43 and have lived a full and lively life so far and have no intention of that stopping. Ok the D does come with some complications but I do not see that as any reason not to enjoy and live a full and happy life.

It seems the thread has veered a little bit off to the side! The original question was how do members perceive the membership - do you think it comprises a significantly large group of one particular age group? From the answers given, I can see that age rarely crosses peoples minds when using the forum, and there is a pretty even spread of contributors of all ages. 🙂

I am so old that I struggle to remember my age - as a child I found it incredible that anyone could forget how old they are but the eye doc asked me last week and I stumbled between 45 and 46! Having done the maths I am able to clear up the problem and state that I am 45 until February 14th when I shall be a year older - calculators at the ready then!

LOL - know what you mean!!

I think age is almost irrelevant on here. There are youngsters who have had diabetes most of their lives so have the experience and wisdom of the disease that the newly diagnosed do not have. It would never occur to me to discard help and support offered by someone a lot younger than me nor would I expect others to ignore me because of my age.

This disease is a leveller and I think we all take advice from wherever we can.

43 😱 this year, albeit seriously in denial!

There you go - there's your answer. We don't care how old anyone on here is 🙂

On a certain birthday, I was given a brass keyring fob which states emphatically '39 Forever'. I still have it so if pressed I will say that. And there's an end to it.

Perception of the forum though?

I tend to think that most here are younger than me cos that's the way of it now for me anyway - most people generally ARE! However I've found out I'm certainly quite wrong about a lot of folk, who turn out to be older than I thunk. And it's more 'young outlook' than 'actually young' if you see what I mean. And as time goes on, there are going to be more and more of us who act younger than we are - or we don't, because our peers are the same as us - but my mother's generation would be appalled at the way we behave!

I should most certainly be wearing sensible shoes at my age, for a start-off ..... and I dare say, going to bed at 10pm ...... to sleep .......

TBH it never bothers me how old members are, you can learn just as much from a young person of 18 as you can from someone who is 40 50 60 or 70 years old.

I'm still trying to claim that I'm 37..........although not quite sure how that fits with me having had diabetes for nearly 41 🙄years

i would percieve you all to be 35 plus, with the odd under 30.........an by odd I mean a good dozen or two............🙂

Well, before I met you I certainly thought you'd be 39ish 😉

i never thought of ages when on the fourum it never crossed my mind though its intresting reading.

on my good days im 39 going on 18 on bad days im going on 90, but im 40 this year so by my rules im 39 again this year and start working backwards 😛:D

In my fifties. I feel as if I have been on insulin forever. A days holiday from it would be nice!🙂

Now, how do I take that, folks? :D

Is Monica saying 'this rancid looking old hag came up to me and introduced herself' Or is she saying 'she told me how old she was' If the former, have to say she's very good,, she didn't show what she was thinking!

LOL

LOL, "rancid old hag"????? 😱 is that how you describe yourself??????😱
That's not an accurate description at all!!! You are a lovely lady and I'm very pleased to have met you 🙂 And I bet Natalie and Sue think the same. After all you (and I) alleviated their fears about the pump.

Talking about age and thinking everyone is the same age as yourself - how about language/accents/dialects??? Because it's me reading your messages they sound like me - so you sound like me. Of course you don't!! When I first met you and you spoke I was surprised you had a brummie(?) accent. But why should I have been surprised? That's where you come from and I knew that, so of course you have that accent 😱 silly me

Some people have expressed surprise that I have a Yorkshire accent, although I do manage to hide it rather well (well, maybe not! 😉) :D

LOL, I didn't speak to you long enough to notice your Yorkshire accent. I do have a tendency to adjust my way of speaking depending who I'm speaking to. My english is a mishmash of accents. I sometimes prononunce words the Yorkshire way, other times I don't. My girls think I'm posh 😱
I grew up having two accents/dialects. One I used with all my friends and people where I grew up, the other I used with my parents (my mum is from a different Kanton/county) I must admit I did get into a bit of a muddle when speaking to my best friend and my mum at the same time. I can almost describe it as speaking 2 different languages and I'm the interpreter. Does that make sense?
