How old are we?

It's OK, I'm not asking for your actual ages! Just that this was a question I was asked at my meeting with DUK and I found it really difficult to answer! Despite the fact that I have been with the forum since it started and probably responded at sometime or another to every single (real i.e. not spammer!) member, I find it very difficult to say that the membership is tilted towards any particular age group. We probably don't have a lot of members under 18, it's true, although we do have a lot of their parents! And we have people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s with, I think, a fair representation from each decade.

Am I right? How do you perceive the forum membership, or is it something you've never really considered because it doesn't seem to come into it? I'd be interested to know people's thoughts 🙂

I don't think about it very much, take some guidance from photographs/avatars. Don't think we attract many teenagers but like you say, we do have quite a few parents and hopefully they feel supported by the forum.

If anything, I would plump for mainly 30-45 age group with a strong older group too.

Its difficult to say how old we all are - as many of us keep it secret..... and I guess the spread of people who post age wise may differ a bit from the actual total membership.

I've been surprised many times by some members who I had down as being in a particular age group but they've then said something to indicate another.

I don't mind telling everyone that I'm in my twenties. It's a lie, but I'm happy to do it. 🙄

I would have said there's a good spread across the age groups. But again, only my perception. Could you set up a poll so everyone can anonymously give their age range ?

p.s. Actually, being serious, I tend not to consider the age of members unless it is pretty obvious from their avatar (but even then it probably isn't a foolproof guide).

I don't think about people's ages either. if pushed I'd guess at the average age being somewhere around 40. I think we have a lot of people in their 30s and 40s...... but also a few in their 60s

I agree, a poll would be a good idea of finding out, if it can be done, something like are you in the 20 - 30 age group, 30 - 40, 40 - 50....

Age is a funny thing I'm in the habit of assuming everyone is about my age, lol

But for here I'd go more for late 20 to 50, plus a few older

PS I'm shocked to admit to being late 30's closer to 40 than 35 😱

My Avatar picture is 9 and a half and feeling very sorry for herself due to a large number of lumps one of which burst over Christmas(not going into details but sebaceous cysts are messy). I'm somewhat younger, but I have got a bus pass (unused as I hate bus travel).

Well I can remember part of the second world war, and my Mickey Mouse gas mask that I had to carry to school😱I can't lie about my age, my birthdate is on my profile and I shall be 73 next month. I never even think of others ages on here, even I think we are all the same age. In my mind I am still very young and still think I can do the things I did as a teanager, its only my body that reminds otherwise and spoils the fun

Its odd that we all get an impression, subconciesly probably, about other members, but it isnt important, but equally probably interesting. I was taken to be a female when I first joined apparently.😎😛

I am often surprised how many years some members have had D, I think this is the only age related thought I have had.

I am a 67 year old male for the record.🙂, but often behave and act like a youngster.

Well my username gives it away a little....! Lol. I'm in my (late - eeek!) 20's and I suppose now that I have thought about it, I would say I have felt like a "young" member on here?! Am not even sure why, and it certainly doesn't matter - what matters is there is so much help and advice and information on here, quite honestly it has kept me sane these past 2.5 months.......

Hi Alan, good question. I don't think age is an issue either. There are many people on here who I think of as being my age (20s) and then find out I'm wrong but it doesn't make any difference, we are all young at heart on here 🙂 Dizzydi - I always assumed you were in your 20s!

Having said that, my mother looked far older in my sister's wedding photos in 1967 (Ma was 53 then) than I do now- Ma + nearly 9yrs !
