How many new diagnoses of diabetes since 2nd vaccine

The time the frame they are giving doesn’t match the test results for diabetes as it measures three months before test results. They had diabetes BEFORE the vaccine! Anti Vaxers are everywhere!
I'm not arguing with the time frame situation. Just making another comment. Unfortunately our media are such that they love bad stories more than happy ones and have massively overhyped the rare cases of complications from the vaccine, which has scared a few people. They (the media) never point out things like far more people have died from Covid than from complications from the vaccine, which makes it a bit of a no brainer for me, get the vaccine! But that's just me, everyone has their own take on it and their own experience.

If you get diagnosed 6 weeks after a vaccine the test measures 3 months before. Therefore you had diabetes before you had the vaccine.
The HbA1c does not measure what you were 3 months earlier. It is a sort of average of the glucose stuck to the red blood cells over the past 3 months (ish), with slightly more weighting to more recent time. So it would be perfectly possible if you had very high levels over the last month before the test for this to override the 2 months before and give you an HbA1c into diabetic values.

Interesting to see this article in the news today.
It's not about the vaccine but about the increase in diabetes diagnosis from those who have contracted covid-19.
Clearly something that needs further investigation but it does explain that it can make insulin resistance worse if you have type 2 already. I take this as more evidence that I don't want to catch it and happier to take the vaccine.

Regarding risk with the vaccine and concern that it was approved too fast without knowing the long term affects, I have just finished reading Vaxxers which us written by the two female scientists at the centre of the Oxford AZ vaccination. It is an interesting read which explains the risks in the process. These were more to do with financial risks to Oxford University and reputational risks to the scientists involved.
Hats off the to Project Managers involved. I am sure this will become a classic case study for business degrees for years to come.

I need to look at my dates on my vaccine proof letter. June I was diagnosed. I never connected it with the vaccine! Is it a concern about the vaccine? I had Pfizer… age is possibly is a factor. I’m 71 so I don't mean any offence. As an elderly person it’s possible to get diabetes at my age.
Thanks for replying . Im curious really. Im 70 , My doc is puzzled. i have blood tests every 3m for a wide variety of items. Doc says there was no sign of diabetes. As you say its the age for it. Im only curious about Pfizer . Ive asked a study I belong to if this has been looked into. Probably no relation

Thanks for this info I had no idea what HbA1c measures ,

I’m going for my booster but yes I’m a lockdown type2 diabetic. June I was diagnosed after my 2 vaccines but my eating sweets was out if control and very lonely. No exercise and spent most of the winter eating and sitting in bed watching tv. I know it sounds awful but I’m not the only one.

Thanks for your honesty. I was trying to lose some wait b4 my next annual check up in November. So I had a low sugar , low fat diet and had backed off some carbohydrates - not good.

I had my BG test 2 years ago and it was 40. It had gone up to 60. I forgot I had estrógen low dose HRT which I was not keen to take as I had liver failure with hormone treatment when I was younger. I looked online and all I could find is that HRT can help prevent type 2 diabetes. If it can interfere with your blood glucose then May be it could be the reason I now have type 2 diabetes after stopping it. It’s true that we don’t know the full effect of drugs on our bodies and the long term consequences. On losing weight. I’m having a bit of success doing slimming world online and prefer it to going to group.

I had a strong reaction to the 1st AZ jab I had, swollen tonsils, temperature and feeling unwell at first and then my feet and legs swelled - I needed antibiotics as my toes turned colour.
My second jab - nothing. They might have injected saline for all the notice it got.

The death statistics seem to have been forgotten by some people

We both had Pfizer - 1st one I had a red hot, really achey arm from the instant I woke the day after, for about 3 days sat on an easy chair and could hardly get me arm up to the chair arm - jab 2, nothing. Pete had no noticeable effects with either. Son in law (50) had Jab 1 AZ and was shivering, teeth chattering, achey for about a week and didn't know whether to go for jab 2 or not but eventually persuaded himself to go and have it - no side effects whatsoever. Nobody else close old or young, has had side effects.

I guess Im puzzled because my doctor is puzzled as there was no warning of diabetes over 20yrs of a barrage of 3monthly tests. But there may have been missed warnings. My weight went from 8stone 8 to 11st. 3 in a year 25yrs ago (medication side effect). I was 5'4 then. 10 yrs ago there were bladder issues which continued; around the same time fatigue after midday meals . 5y rs ago I managed to reduce weight to 10st 3. A nurse flagged up my BM! 2 yrs ago

Hi I had coffee with a friend today. 2 of her friends have suddenly been diagnosed with diabetes in the past few weeks. 3 people know 5 people diagnosed here in the past few weeks. I'll check if all 5 were low in weight & whether they all had Pfizer jab. And report these to Covid19 study.

I had Pfizer Jenny. I’m overweight . They’ve started rolling diabetes the boosters here I think they’re at the serious illness and 80 S group. Just a bit of fun. May be it’s all that coffee giving you all Diabetes lol You’ve never said what type of diabetes you have! Would be easier for the right people to help you

I’ve been getting repeated reminders of booking in for my Covid booster, and I’m not over 80, nor do I possess any serous illnesses in terms of surviving infection after two jabs. Must be one of these postcode lotteries.

Hi Ive written to the doctor in charge of the Covid 19 study @
My sudden and unexpected diagnosis came suddenly , 6 weeks after my 2ndjab . I know 1 other person , even slimmer than me who is now pre diabetic and a third diagnosed with type 2?
Ive contacted the Doctor in charge of the Covid 19 study @ Imperial College. Sorry for stirring things up on here. People are here to get help and progress rather than conjecture. Apologies

Since a mild, non-Covid, respiratory infection put me in hospital I await my Covid booster with enthusiasm. Not sure, as I am on steroids, whether I shall get the full benefit to my immunity but with heart failure, COPD and diabetes any risk reduction sounds good to me. Rang a friend who has lung cancer, awaiting further ablation, and much worse heart failure to tell her that flu vaccines will be available on 9/10/21 to get the response that "it wasn't worth while as the effectiveness was only 50% or less". She was unpersuadable. Halves your chances of catching flu sounds damned good to me so I'm booked in. My GP made me laugh about the Covid booster when he pointed out that risk assessment was complicated - the steroids might increase my chances of a poor immune response but would probably help avoid a cytokine storm...So I'll continue my starring role as the weird local masked recluse whilst feeling less concerned about the potential result of catching the beastly virus and content that I have taken all sensible precautions.

Allergic to flu vaccine and not had flu in years since I stopped taking it but usually go to Lanzarote for at least a month in winter. Better than any vaccine. I hope you feel better soon you have a lot of health issues
