My sudden and unexpected diagnosis came suddenly , 6 weeks after my 2ndjab . I know 1 other person , even slimmer than me who is now pre diabetic and a third diagnosed with type 2? Is there a co incidence here?

I recently read a meta-study (study of research papers) which showed that worldwide, covid and lockdown led to a rise in HbA1C amongst the "general public" and people with type 2 diabetes. The assumption was that, as people were going out less they were moving less and comfort eating more.
I appreciate this is not related to the vaccine.

On the other hand, there was an average reduction in HbA1C for people with Type 1 in all studies except one in India where there was a supply problem for test strips and insulin.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about 4 weeks after my first Covid jab.

I’ve declined the second jab now but I’m unsure if I think it was related….

Interesting .
Re moving I have a sound support dog . It has to be walked for 1 hour each day all thru lockdown. But I realise many people couldn,t do this. My slim friend was shielding so she didnt go out. !

Im due for a booster. I'm all in favour but wonder what effect it will have.

I’m going for my booster but yes I’m a lockdown type2 diabetic. June I was diagnosed after my 2 vaccines but my eating sweets was out if control and very lonely. No exercise and spent most of the winter eating and sitting in bed watching tv. I know it sounds awful but I’m not the only one.

I need to look at my dates on my vaccine proof letter. June I was diagnosed. I never connected it with the vaccine! Is it a concern about the vaccine? I had Pfizer… age is possibly is a factor. I’m 71 so I don't mean any offence. As an elderly person it’s possible to get diabetes at my age.

But the HAB1c records the 3 months blood glucose diabetes Before you were tested therefore 6 weeks or 4 weeks isn’t long enough to have caused diabetes as it’s outwith the glucose level test. In other words you were diabetic before your vaccine! I got my results June but the test was taken May my second vaccine was April 22 nd. Unless I had it after my first dose the 3 months before 2 nd vaccine takes me back to February. I’ve had diabetes before my 2 nd vaccine. I don’t know about my first vaccine as no one was looking for diabetes from in 2019 when I had BG tested. Jenny you were diabetic for 6 weeks before you had your second jab making 6 weeks before jab and 6 weeks after.

The same @Bruce Stephens I haven’t read anything about the vaccines causing diabetes but I have read that Covid might cause diabetes, both Type 1 and Type 2.
That‘s all I can find. There’s a yellow card reporting if anyone feels that strong about it.

I don't remember seeing any such concern. All the worries I've seen have been about COVID-19 causing diabetes, but I'm not sure how common that's thought to be.
I‘ve had a search Bruce and nothing. The virus can cause it. The HAbc1 measure blood glucose for 3 months before the test. A lot don’t realise that. Therefore they’re not getting it from the vaccine 4-6 weeks later. They had it before the vaccine.

Jimmy your diabetes test tests you for. 3 months BEFORE Not after. You had diabetes BEFORE you had the vaccine. You’re doing yourself a massive disfavour if you don‘t take 2 nd as diabetics our pancreas gets attacked by the virus. A lot think they can fool the tests by behaving for a few weeks before their review but they need to behave 3 months before the review. I was shocked when dr told me this. I’ve never tried to trick him as I’m newly diagnose in June.

Sorry Jimmy - you were born with an auto immune system that was likely to go wrong - for 50 years considered to be likely to kill off your Beta cells if you met a virus at any time after your birth, even if it dealt with the virus apparently OK.

Personally we are both still far more concerned about getting killed by Covid - or passing it on to anyone else our age - than we are about the effects of any of the vaccines. Margaret - the 80-ish year old Coventry lady who was the very first normal individual in the UK to get her first vaccine last December was on the news again the other day having her 3rd, booster jab - so as our first two were end of Jan and end of March - we're expecting to be called any time from now and will be there like a shot (LOL) to get em.

Just a thought everyone... don't lose sight of the fact that there is a steady rate of people getting a diabetes diagnosis, most of whom will have had a covid vaccination. It is hardly surprising therefore some are getting the diagnosis not long after vaccination. I think it would be wise not to try and draw a correlation between the two. Leave it to the medical statisticians who no doubt will be diligently looking at these things.

In any case, I'm with TW. The benefits from getting vaccinated far outweigh any downsides. Getting my booster next week.

It’s been known for a long time that viruses can trigger type 1, pretty sure that’s what did for my daughter and that was long before Covid came along. So it’s no surprise if covid can trigger it too.

If you get diagnosed 6 weeks after a vaccine the test measures 3 months before. Therefore you had diabetes before you had the vaccine.

The time the frame they are giving doesn’t match the test results for diabetes as it measures three months before test results. They had diabetes BEFORE the vaccine! Anti Vaxers are everywhere!

Yes, it is one of the many factors that a proper analysis would take into account. Always be wary of anecdotal evidence.

I however think we may react to the vaccine differently . I’m scared to have my second after the reaction with the first .
