I worked on the basis that my problem was my blood glucose, not weight or activity or any of the other things which are cited as being at fault.
By not eating high carb foods so that I got down to under 8mmol/l I then saw my ability to cope with that level improve, as the same meals showed a few points lower as time went by.
I did lose weight - over 3 stone, and I did do more activity, because I wanted to and had the energy - and my joints stopped aching, but they were all side effects as far as I was concerned. I am now over a year since diagnosis and have had normal readings for half that time.
 
I aim for about 30g carbs each meal, three times a day.
However I have just been tempted by another slice of rather yummy bread!!
Extra insulin to go with it, and time to go for a walk!!
