I now have my appointment date for the gastric emptying study - 7th November, 10am. I've been told I will be eating an egg white omelette and toast with strawberry jam. I can't eat for 4 hrs prior so will not be having breakfast - and I have to keep my BG below 11. Just wondering how many carbs you would guess as being in the 'meal'? Obviously I do carb count but just wanted your take on it. Going to try to get my basal right between now and then. The test will take 4 hours so I don't want to go hypo or go above 11 in that time! Not easy at the moment.

Depends on the size and thickness of the slice of bread, but I'd be guessing 20g for a standard medium-sliced piece of toast with thinly spread jam. Don't envy you having to eat an egg-white omelette, yuk!

Oh Lor' - I hate strawberry jam! I'd be wanting to take my own jar of apricot, or some marmalade LOL

I slice of large medium sliced loaf is 15g, and the amount of carb in one of those individual packs of jam is 10g, but I'd normally only put half of one of those on, so as someone already said, I'd allow 20g.

But you may find your BG is already more than it ought to be when you test pre-meal as a) you'll be stressed and b) it will be well past when you should really have eaten. The toast and jam will hit you like a steam engine because there's no fat there to slow it down, what a good breakfast for a diabetic, not ......

Thanks Redkite and Trophywench, I was going to go with a guesstimate of 20g. I would usually cut back the NR to ensure I don't go hypo but as I can't go above 11 ... I guess I'll just have to see what's happening on the day.

I don't fancy the egg white omelette and I don't really like any jam, should be fun!

Good luck with it, it is in a good cause, your health. I'm sure everything will be fine and you'll sail through it.

Thank you Caroline. 🙂
