Hi everyone

In the last month Ive been dealing with being diabetic but now my hubby and myself have now starting to ask questions. One that makes us think is how to know how to read the boxes and packets when going shopping. How low does the information for sugar need to be? Please please help lol

ty Tracey xxxx

Well - it doesn't have to be low specifically - although sugar is a very fast-acting carbohydrate so you have to factor that in within the overall carbohydrate value so you don't eat too much.

T2s are very often better off trying to eat more slower acting carb rather than anything that hits the bloodstream like a train.

But how much? - it's very individual so you just have to test before and after meals to see what spikes your BG and what doesn't; how much of what things you can eat safely and which things you can't - but you might not have to give em up completely, just eat less of them ....

Thanks

Thanks for the post but not quiet what i need to know but im sure ill keep it in mind. As everyone when they are first told, Dr or Nurses say not to worry about testing which i find hard to believe as this is your way of understanding your body. Then again what do i know lol but again thank you. xxx

Hi there pinkfluff, have you had a chat with the resident dietitian at your local hospital? They are a mine of information and time well spent chatting.

As trophywench says the amount and types of carbohydrate that you can eat with out spiking your blood sugar is a very individual thing. The thing you have to learn is how varius carbs affect your blood sugars. The problem here is that many type 2s get told not to test, but there are members on the forum who have tested and their Drs have been so impressed that they have prescribed strips.

Have you seen a dietician - if you can see one they can give you a target of how many carbs to eat in a day and you can then take it from there.

No offer of a dietician as the mo but im losing the weight at the mo which i guess is helping. Ive got a appointment with the Nurse in a months time so ill have a chat with her then. All this going through my hand as well as dealing with depession doesnt help but getting there i think. Ty for the help xx
