Can you keep bread in the freezer for? I know that must sound like the daftest question ever but I've never actually frozen bread before so I do apologise 😳 x

That would depend on your freezer I would say. They all have different settings, different lowest temps. I would guess, going off ours, about three months. 🙂

Thank you! 🙂 x

The usual guidelines for keeping anything in the freezer is 3 months, though this can vary. Make sure the bread is well sealed so it doesn't suffer freezer burn.

Having said that, I used to know someone who used to bake her own bread in batches and freeze them in a huge chest freezer. Some of those had been in for many, many months and she never complained of any ill effects. She also used to wrap the bread in kitchen towel first, then cling film, then a freezer bag, claiming it helped keep the quality good. No idea if it made any difference though. She was still working into her 80s though!

I find the longer you keep bread in the freezer (as in longer than three months) the more it dries out at the top and goes soggy at the bottom when it's defrosted. No problem if you're taking it out by the slice to toast it, but it can be annoying if you're defrosting the whole loaf to use as bread.

I was planning to buy some Burgen and bag them in 2 slices to use for toast if I fancied it 🙂 x

You'll be fine then. I have 4 loaves of Burgen in the freezer at the moment. Got them reduced to clear. Must be over 3 months since I bought them & it's still fine.

I must confess that having helped my Mum defrost a huge freezer a few times I tend to think of freezing as an indefinite way of preserving stuff, at least health wise. It wouldn’t occur to me that bread would go off in the freezer as long as it’s properly sealed.

Well. don't think it will kill you. Just that the texture changes. I've still got a slice of low carb chocolate cake I made last Christmas somewhere in the bottom of our freezer.

Just don't put it in the fridge, it goes stale. 🙂 I always used to put bread in the fridge!
