I know there was a thread a while back asking when people were diagnosed. I was just wondering, out of pure interest, for those of you who haven't blocked it out of their memories... How high was your blood sugar when you were diagnosed?

Mine was 44.4. Helped along nicely by the glucose tablets and tonic the doctors told my mum to give me for energy...

My daughter was opposite and she registered at just 0.3 mmol at 20 hours after birth !!!!

44.4 is very high.

I was 17 point something when I was diagnosed at the GP.

My first hypo while in hospital learning to inject I read 0.5!!

NiVZ

I have no idea what level I was, but it's on my looong list of things to ask the GP when I go on monday.

Alex was 38!!!!!!! I stupidly asked 'is that high'?😱Bev

I was 29.1
What I can't understand is how did the Dr know I was type1?
How is type 1 and 2 actually diagnosed?
I think I was diabetic for well over a year before diagnosis because I had the symptoms for over a year.

I have no idea how high I was, though I'd love to know for the sake of curiosity! I do know that I was in DKA at the time, so I figure I must have been pretty high.

One of the DSNs was telling us that it was quite common for people to drink lucozade before they're diagnosed, because they're really thirsty and figure the sugar will give them energy...

I was about 23, and I only know that because I'd had an assortment of tests done at a health care event at work.

Work hold haealth care awareness events every year, that I go to. I get the tests done because I get the results there and then. If therre is anything I need to see my GP about I have a piece of paper I can take to him and saythey said I should see you, these are the results. Half of his work at least is then done as he knows what to look for, but if I just went and said this is how I feel he'd just say go home and rest...

Were you in DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) when you were diagnosed? If you had high levels of ketones it would suggest that you were Type1 as it's less likely for Type 2's. Not only does insulin help process glucose, but it also helps process ketones - if you're Type 1 with no insulin, the ketones continue to rise.

I was 37 at diagnosis - I asked the doctor 'Is that good?'!😱

We're diagnosis twins!

I was discussing diabetes with my neighbour and said that I was 37 at diagnosis - she said 'How old are you now?'🙂

I was diagnosed after a glucose tolerence test after I had normal fasting readings, I think my 2 hour level was 17.
