How do you handle peoples reactions to us self testing ?

I am the same as @Mark Parrott these days
I test in the morning and after I have eaten something I am not sure about just to check for any adverse reaction
My fingers welcome the break

My Libre tells me I test around 6 times a day, on average, but then I’m Type 1. With nice soft fingers🙂

I test first thing in the morning, and a min of one other time depending on what I am doing, usually I test before every meal as that can dictact what I eat. If I go out and and I will normally be diving usually around every 2 hours as I know that's when I am at risk of hypos and also to comply with DVLA guide lines with hypo causing meds.

You have to consider peoples own regimes eg are they on insulin or other 'Hypoglycaemic inducing' treatment (eg Gliclazide) or eg are they a pregnant lady, before thinking OMG why do they need to test that much? and becoming totally discouraged by any of the numbers.

Here's a truthful comment - yes I'm T1 on insulin via a pump and if I'm doing 'basal testing' then I might test every hour sometimes - but there again at other times if I fancy a cake and know the carb count - I'll just jab for it and sort it out at dinnertime if it turns out it wasn't quite right before I ate the éclair.

We each test whenever we NEED to, is what it boils down to! - and we each only find that out by our own experimentation over time.

I’m averaging 9 times per day but I’m pregnant type 1.

Once you have tested for a while and know what your usual levels are you don't need to test so often.
For instance I know my before breakfast reading is between 7 and 8 and about the same two hours later so, as i always have the same for breakfast I only test before eating dinner and two hours afterwards just to be sure my daily levels are ok.
I also keep a food diary with my readings on an excel spreadsheet so I know what to expect from certain meals i.e.pre dinner reading should be between 5 and 6, two hours after eating steak, 6 chips and mushrooms, tomatoes and a green vegetable I would expect a reading of between 7 and 8.
Chilli and one tbs rice 9, yeh I know not good but only eaten every couple of weeks or so.
Liver and bacon, three veggies and two tiny pieces of potato under 7.
I try not to eat any carbs between breakfast and dinner ( we don't eat lunch)
Once you know what readings to expect you can then balance what you eat so if you know your main meal will give you a low reading you can follow it with say a piece of fruit which you know will be high but your reading will still be within guidelines.
"Plea bargaining" with yourself so to speak.
