Hi , The DVLA Want me to chat to my doctor due to hypo awareness concerns - If they revoked my licence is there anyway I could ever get it back ? and how would I go about getting it back.
I am very Hypo aware , I shake - I sweat - I tingle and the sun seems brighter, I am more than happy to take any test. How do I prove I am not a danger, Sorry if this question has probably been answered many times on here but I have been unable to find the answer.
is there a time period before I can re-apply ?

Sorry to hear that, have you needed help with hypos or have you said to the dvla that you don’t have hypo awareness?

If you have great hypo awareness and haven’t had severe hypos then you hopefully won’t lose your licence.

No I have never needed help with Hypo ever . For such an important form - its definition of serious hypo seems pretty ambiguous.

I'm not type 1.
But, I understood the definition for the DVLA was that a serious hypo was one that needed assistance from a third party.

The information with the form is pretty clear I think about saying it’s one where you need assistance. Did you say that you have had serious hypos?

This is the serious hypo question, clearly says don’t count hypos where you could have helped yourself. Which bit are you finding ambiguous?

I find this very unusual, DVLA do not ask you to chat to your GP regarding hypo awareness. If you told them you were hypo unaware then you can kiss good bye to your licence same as if you have had 2 hypos needing assistance.

What has caused the DVLA to ask questions?

The form dosent say "needing assistance" - it asks if "youve ever had an episode of low blood sugar in the last 12 months" - mine goes up and down all the time , When I have a curry it goes up - When I go for a run it goes down - So I just ticked yes ?
So getting back to my original question - if they revoke it , can you get it back ?
Has anyone out there ever lost it and got it back ?

The question about having a hypo in the last 12 months doesn’t cause them to investigate you for hypo awareness. It’s only the question about severe hypos I posted above, and the question about hypo awareness that raise questions. Do you remember what you answered to these?

Ahh , right - The form said go to part 2 - so I didnt have to fill that bit in.
Did you put yes to 1.8? If so, that’s why they’re investigating I would guess. You only answer that question if you have had severe hypos that you needed help to treat and could not treat alone.

So getting back to my original question - If they revoked a licence can you ever get it back ?

You need to tell them you made a mistake, and simply filled in the form wrongly.

Well if you do lose it because of something that does make you an accident waiting to happen then when you wish to re-apply you'd need to talk to your diabetes consultant and your GP, to make sure they agree with you that you should now be OK to drive again, then apply to get it back, after which in their own time, DVLA are likely to ask the hospital and/or your GP all sorts of questions - and again DVLA will look at the answers and then maybe ask more questions and ask you to undertake further tests relevant to your medical state.. and then decide one way or the other.

Yes, it's certainly possible - but no guarantees.

Far FAR easier to try as hard as we can, not to lose it in the first place.

So you can actually re apply to get it back again. Thanks - Got there in the end Lol.

Yes, you can. I’m trying to remember the name of the man recently who detailed his trouble here. Might be informative.

Oh yes you can but it aint a quick fix. I sent my licence back for renewal on the 16th of October last year and am still awaiting for a new licence.
Do tell them you misunderstood the question or didn't fill it in correctly so it gets the ball rolling.
I think it's about 3 months before you can reapply if your licence is revoked due to medical reasons. so at the speed DVLA are working or not as the case may be you can probably expect to wait a year to get it back.
