As 2017 is about to end, I wondered how you all see in the new year? Will it be a meal out, a party, family get together or a quiet night in with Jools Holland? It’s amazing how many people profess to disliking NYE. It always promises more than it delivers but in my neck of the woods, it’s still widely celebrated.

We will be going to a Club with friends and I take lots of food. There is usually a good atmosphere and live music. We go over to the Pub who also put on a free buffet and then home in plenty of time to let in the new year in the traditional way with the first footer, a piece of coal and money given followed by a round of Auld Lang Syne. Then a few fireworks. Last year ended up with going to a party till 2am but I’m determined to have a quieter time this year.

Only difference since becoming diabetic is I no longer have a cake to cut at midnight because it would be too tempting for the weeks following!

Hope you have a lovely time whatever you’re doing 😛

More importantly, I hope 2018 is a healthy, happy time for everyone! I know I have some challenges to overcome/ endure next year.

We usually have a quiet night in with Jools Holland. There's normally fireworks going off somewhere in the area, and to be honest, I prefer a good night's sleep to partying these days :(

Seconding Amigo in wishing y'all a healthy, happy 2018 🙂

I used to sit and have an advocaat and lemonade with my mum, I don't drink anymore and am planning on heading to bed at 10pm as usual, the eastern Europeans will be letting fireworks off as per from 10pm onwards x

Pity you and Bruce couldn’t get yourselves out somewhere together. You needn’t drink. In bed at 10pm listening to the neighbours letting off steam doesn’t sound much fun for you Kaylz! 😳

Stay home, try to find something to watch on the TV, red wine, cheese and biscuits, will probably make some more sausage rolls. No point in sending the kids to bed until the fireworks finish where we live as they can't sleep, so they stay up with us to see the New year in, also, they like watching the big London firework display.

10pm for me also @Kaylz
Gave up the drunken partying a long time ago. Clubs, ridiculous queues, over-priced everything, drinks being spilled, not being able to get a taxi back, fights, the streets of Newcastle paved with regurgitated keebabs, hangovers, walking the streets at 4.30am. etc. etc. etc. Being "pleasant" to people some of whom you really cannot be bothered with. Way to auld for that lol
Miss my childhood New Years Eve and my old friends who no longer are with us for various reasons.
Used to spend it in Thailand for a number years but that is not the same now anymore and anyway I am away from home to much and I like to have my own space when home, unwind.
Throwing a party is to much like hard work - anti social in some ways.
Nowt warse hinny than being sober when everyone is rat a****.
Go to my sons I end up driving everyone all over the place and waiting while they all get their wee drams which end up being anything but wee drams and then I get all of my Sons secrets some of which I would rather not know lol, so I gave that up also.
Have a friend over from Kuala Lumpur who is working in York, was planned he would come up for the weekend and stay for New Year but the weather is sort of putting paid too that.
So bed at my usual 10pm.
I prefer New Years Day.
Anyway, I need my beauty sleep, lots of it.
New Year, New Challenges.

@Vince_UK the worst time of my life was the New Years Eve I worked in the pub, all the drunken gentleman wanting to give me a kiss YUCK haha, although I knew them all as it was my local before I started working there it was still disgusting, lets just say not all of them have good personal hygiene so you can imagine haha x

I’ve hosted New Years parties in the past, but not for thirty years. Since then, it’s been a night in with Jools, or latterly, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations and fireworks- usually lots of fiddle and accordion tunes, Biffy Clyro usually show up, or other Scottish bands, and great fun. Then bed ASAP.🙂

Where we go is quiet and not full so there’s none of that debauchery and drunkenness! I’ve seen enough of that to last a lifetime too! Taxis are in plentiful supply these days and we don’t venture into the town centre so there’s no extortionate entrance fees either.
Gone are the days when people had ‘open house’ at New Year. My parents always had a big party and people went first footing. Everyone is in bed at 10pm now! Lol

For the past few years we had friends round ours, nibbles, games, laughs, but last year no-one bothered coming over despite saying they would. So this year we are going to the brewery that we help at to see the new year in. We're sleeping in the upstairs office so havent got to worry about coming home.

We opt for a quiet night in, having a few friends over for appetizers & a nice prime rib dinner...... Not forgetting a few drinks and playing nickle & dime poker.... Well, that usually turns into a lot of drinks & drinking games.... On the stroke of midnight we toast in the new year with bubbly and banging pots & pans; just so the neighbors are aware it's the New Year.

I don’t know if ‘banging pots and pans’ is better or worse than fireworks Martin! Lol. Sounds a very civilised night though 🙂

I like New Year after the stress of Christmas. Generally we throw a house party for family and neighbours or we go to one. This year, mostly because of Mr Eggy’s situation, we are staying in and have invited two friends for dinner. We also don’t want to be far from home as daughter number 1 is due a baby anytime now and we will be needed to accommodate her two children. We also watch Jools, I must admit I was upset to find out recently the show isn’t live but hey ho I will try and put that out of our mind! We will toast the New Year with something bubbly and then probably just go to bed shortly afterwards. Happy New Year everyone, I for one will be glad to see the back of it!

better or worse than fireworks
A couple of years ago thought about getting some blank rounds for our firearms but then thought the better of it as someone might report it as shots fired & the deputies have enough to do on New Years eve. Fireworks are definitely a no-no.... the conditions are so dry; a recent wildfire burned over 440 sq miles

Yep, I've had this experience too 😱 after the first time the next year I stayed behind the bar as far away from everyone as possible :D

We normally stay in and just chill, glass of bubbly at midnight then straight to bed ready for when the small one might wake us up!

This year we’ve madly decided to drive to the Lake District to spend new year with friends. Should be nice as long as the drive is ok.
