Had some blood tests last week. I'm anaemic, which is no surprise. However, one of the tests was Hba1c. When it was last done about 5 months ago it was 46 🙂, but it's now 61:(.
I have been managing my diabetes just the same. My GP thinks it might be 'cos I had my liver microwaved and it might have affected my metabolising of carbs..

Ideas welcome!

Aye, you need special kit to measure HbA1c in anaemia. If it was just sent as a normal request, it would come back inaccurate. Have a chat with your GP, see if he wants to repeat it. Yould have to be eating an awful lot of sweeties to get that kind of rise.

That's useful to know. Of course, he didn't know I was anaemic when he requested the test.
I'll mention it next time I need an Hba1c (which will be while I'm gnawing iron rods for snacks:D)

Thought anaemia caused falsely high hba1cs but not 100% sure on this. Maybe others with more experience of diabetes may know.

Yup - you have to have a fructosamine test not a glucose one.

You live and you learn!
