We have been invited out on Saturday evening to a local pub which serves Thai food, which means an awful lot of rice.

Does anyone have any suggestions about low-carb choices? I don't usually eat meat when I'm out, so veggie/fish is fine though I'm not sure about some of the sauces. This one looks ok though: 'Steamed Cod with Soya Sauce topped with Fresh Ginger and Spring Onion'...which does come with rice however.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Try Thai chicken with vegetables or beef with vegetables if its on the menu of course , maybe choose a small portion of steamed rice instead of fried rice or noodles.Just be careful of the salt content of the soya sauce. Hope you do have a lovely Saturday evening.

My strategy when doing ethnic foods is to forget about the rice, it's a vehicle to sop up the sauce & a spoon would work just as well......

Thanks, Steff and Martin - I think I'll stick to the steamed cod and stir fried veggies 🙂

Let us know how you get on PM hopefully theres no nasty spikes waiting around the corner x
Well, the thing turned out to be a bit of a damp squib actually. There were about 8 or 9 of us in the end, but we hadn't realised the pub would be full of a) rugby fans, and b) people still celebrating St Patrick's Day, so the racket (including music) was deafening. Knowledge of sign language would have come in useful.

Some of us duly ordered food. I asked for the steamed cod with veggies instead of rice, and the guy went off to check. He came back to say there was no more fish (shades of Fawlty Towers: 'duck's off...') so I went for stir fried veggies & rice. It was ok, the veggies were nice and I ate less than a third of the rice. I'd nipped to the Ladies to test beforehand and it was a good 4.8. Two hours after the meal plus several glasses of red wine I nipped off again, and it was 6.7, so not bad at all.

When we got home I had a snack of a couple of cracker-type thins with a piece of St Agur cheese, and tested before bed. It was 5.6 :D

Pity about the noise in the pub and the fact that there was no fish, but heigh ho, we were all out with a friend who has landed a job in New York for a year, but is not sure yet when she is leaving, so like Sinatra and Status Quo she's having several farewells 🙂

Ah sorry to hear it's always gonna be boisterous in a pub full of rugby and Irish people lol. Very good numbers to be proud of throughout the night PM
