Thanks Northerner sound practical advice

Hot weather and hypos

I'm certainly having probs with hypos. It's good to know its not just me!

Having problems as well with the heat, does seam to be knocking the numbers down, did not help much walking for an hour (hate paying hospital parking charges).

Had a 2.2 this evening with no symptoms 😱 Another thing that non-Ds don't realise is the problem - it's not just having to inject, it's working out how much you might need!

Had to drastically cut my insulin down on Sunday (in fact all I had was the basal running on my pump and even had to stop that a couple of times due to going low at work) and woke at 2:30 this morning to a 2.1 after having significantly less bolus for my Tea last night than I normally would.

Thanks for the tips, all good advice and timely reminders too. Personally I try to stick in the shade as much as I can and keep plenty of fluids to hand.

Me too Linda. Pain in the bum

thanks northerner

This heat is messing my levels all over the place, before driving I was 10.3 😱 😡 got to the super market had a small treat as the BS was high (normally have a couple of treats while out) came out from shopping just over 2 hours after first test and BS had dropped to 5.6. 😱

Shopping normally knocks my BS about really badly, but today was the worst ever drop in the time span.

Mine are all over the shop too, some fairly nasty hypos (mid twos) and a couple of highs, though only just into double figures*. I'm not sure if it's the heat or the infection I'm still battling.

* I suppose I shouldn't complain about being in the tens or elevens given that they were 'low' numbers for me this time last year, but I've got used to single figures now.

Its exactly the same with me, had a hypo very early this morning in the mid two's and felt really rough, also getting high's in the teens. 6 months ago I was in the high teens to the mid 20's, looks like its the heat with me.

I've been similar, yesterday my BG was reasonable in the morning being between 5 and 7 then I walked to work and it rose steeply to 33 😱 before going to 1.8 before my break 😱 then stayed at 7.7 till I went to bed at 1am (late evening shift so needed to relax) woke to a hypo of 2.7 coreceted and had a high if 11 before going shopping got back a short while ago with a BG of 2.7 :(

Brilliant. So i'm not the only one feeling constantly tired in this weather. BS level is at 6.0 at the moment that's after 2 toast and a pint of water.

After a different tea of bacon 3 eggs and wholemeal bread, I am already at 3.6 :( . Think tomorrow will try just having 80 mg of gliclazide instead of the usual 160 mg. Then I suppose will be going high in the mid afternoons. There no logic in what's going on in this heat. 😡😡

Hi - newbie on here. I've been Type 2 for about 4-5 yrs now - diet controlled. Been out this morning but had plenty to drink. Had late lunch over two hours ago - but became really tired and so went to lie down. Just got up and could see patterns in a plain carpet! so decided to take my blood sugars - 18.6. I've never been that high - I'm usually 7-8 when I take it. Is this just the current heat and still close to eating?

Hi Jilly, welcome to the forum 🙂 What did you have to eat? It's possible that you may have picked up an infection, which often raises blood glucose levels and may have also contributed to how you were feeling. Did your levels come down a couple of hours later?

Hi Northerner - they did drop to 12.8 within a couple of hours and they are now 9.3 so all seems better now. Bit scarey at the time though as I just felt so very very tired. Not aware I have an infection - can only think its the heat as we are so not used to it. At least I shall be more aware - and I have now at least found yourselves on here - thank you.

Glad to hear that they came down to more reasonable levels Jilly 🙂 When my levels are higher than usual it makes me very lethargic. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you!
