So..... Iv only been diagnosed since June this year, and have been told about the honeymoon period.

I understand what this is but.... Am abit apprehensive about it are my blood sugars one day going to shoot up as at the minute I feel I have pretty good control of them!

I carb count and am only needing 4 units of levermir morning and night, I understand this is a small dose so am I going to need more? My diabetes specialist nurse states she has now discharged me so am wondering will it be obvious when I stop producing all insulin?

Just a little confused 🙂

It can be confusing, as whether you are actually experiencing a honeymoon phase or not is hard to tell! Some people naturally only need very small doses. The honeymoon period can either help to smooth levels, or it can make them more erratic be putting out extra insulin when it's not expected, making things hard to manage. It's unlikely though that you will rapidly go from 4 units to, say, 20, it's likely to be more gradual - if it actually happens!

I'm surprised that your DSN has 'discharged' you  Your clinic should always provide access to a DSN if you need to discuss things, whether it is directly related to insulin doses or problems with treatment, or things like depression, for example.

Well I have open access to the DSN but she has discharged me from her clinic, thankyou for your help its so hard to tell.... It's prob best to not think about it and just assess my bg day by day 🙂

Ah, I see 🙂 Yes, I think so. Elements will change for a variety of reasons over time, and it is only experience and asking questions that will help you determine their cause. Look at me, for example: diagnosed 5 years ago, 20 lantus and 45 novorapid. Just over a year ago I had reduced my lantus so much that I stopped needing it! Still on about 20-30 novorapid a day. What's all that about?

Diabetes can be very confusing at times, you can only do your best and try to learn as you go, and from others 🙂
