I have a lot of problems with bread, can tolerate 1 slice of Bergan provided its with an egg.

My Podiatrist the other day suggested I try making my own bread, as in some cases its all the rubbish in commercial bread that can be a problem.

I thought maybe worth a try so got my wholemeal flour etc and going to give it a go tomorrow. Even if it fails, at least I get 1 slice of nice bread.:D

Anyone else think this may work?

BTW, my feet were pampered for an hour and have never been so good, a couple of suspect nails to monitor, but all test good.🙂

Not sure whats going on here, but I got results of 6.1 at 1 hour, 5.6 at 2., for 1 slice of homemade wholemeal bread(40g) and a little low fat spread.

This is against 10+ at 1 hour and 8.5 ish for 2 slices of Bergen and 1 scrambled egg.

Not a direct comparison I know, but it does appear the homemade is better, and can be eaten on its own.🙂

What were your pre-meal readings?

Hi Slipper,

As Northerner says, a lot depends on your pre meal readings.

Read this article and it explains about supermarket bread and it will spur you on to make your own. I always used to when I had people to cook for.

This site is worth a read and there are some recipes as well.

You may be able to get stoneground flour from somewhere like Waitrose or there may be a Mill local to you that sells flour. You can buy direct on the internet as well.

Happy Baking.:D

Thanks for your links Cherriepie.

I think yesterday portion size may have helped a lot. The pre meal reading was 5.2, hence I was so impressed.

I deliberately took a large slice 80g) for breakfast today, equivelent of two Bergen I would say, and had 1 scrammbled egg.

Pre was 5.4, 1 Hr 10.2, 2 Hr 7.1., so not so good this time, but still an improvement on Bergan, were for 2 slices I was getting 11+. Also I dont get that rapid drop to below the pre reading.

So sadly I cant have a big slice, but it does taste delicious so will try a50g portion next time.

I will make certain of my reading before posting next time, got a bit excited.🙂
