Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all does anybody have any suggestions of the best/cheepest company to get holiday insurance from (obviously declaring to them i'm type 1).Thanks.x

Moneysupermarket can do insurance comparisons for pre-existing conditions - I'd just go through them to find the best deal.

I have annual insurance from LV and when I told them I was now injecting the premium increased by ?25. As a 67 year old type 2 with 74 Year OH very pleased with that as it was a well researched good deal in the first place. Always research every year though. Thank goodness for computers! Insurance through Diabetes UK advertisement was REFUSED as I was not yet stable on insulin. Who could say that anyway? My fault for changing regime 2 weeks before renewal date and being honest!!

I've got other pre-existing conditions and am over 60 so with the diabetes my insurance premiums have gone up this year. I've done a search on the internet and moneysavingexpert.com and went to www.allcleartravel.co.uk and they have an on line medical screening and they search the best deals. I've gone with a company called Explorer and they were over ?60 cheaper than my usual insurer and has better cover.

I've gone with Halifax, who charged ?10 extra on an annual Europe family insurance. Same with Esure.
Am now with my Nationwide Account free travel insurance, upgraded it to a family one (?35) and all our pre-existing conditions were free :D

I used "good to go" insurance thro the internet - had more medical covers than usual for mediactions etc

That's interesting Monica - we almost moved our current account to Nationwide (elsewhere, but also inc Travel Ins) but of course, I needed to check out the insurance cover because if they charged a lot more for it or refused me, I'd then be scratting round elsewhere for cover and frankly, didn't want the hassle. I like it being sorted, knowing we're OK, don't have to do anything and it's just one less thing to ever have to worry about.

But the insurers won't tell you upfront whether they'll cover you or not. Similarly the trip limit is 30 days and so we'd have to increase that and again dunno how much. So we didn't move our bank account, even though it would save us over ?200 a year, as we might have to pay more than that for insurance, esp as we get older and more and more decrepit .... !
