I'm going to Lanzarote for 14 days 🙂.

I've been before, we own an apartment there. However I've not been since May 2011 & whenever I've been in the past I've not been carb counting / not really watching BS levels etc etc. It's only really since last September when I met my new DSN and also joining this forum that I've been at grips with everything ie testing when I should / carb counting / watching BS levels etc. I would appreciate any diabetic advise as to food when I'm there.

We're staying in an apartment not our own as we currently have a long term tenant in there.

My typical food In Lanzarote would be:

Breakfast - toast (in the apartment)
or
cooked breakfast (egg, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, toast sort of thing) (done by OH & If I'm lucky enough for him to be doing this!)
or
full english breakfast or any other type of breakfast thing ie scrambled eggs & toast (at Timbayba, a favourite restraunt)

Lunch - toastie sandwich (at Sirocco, a favourite sea front restraunt watching the planes)
or
sandwich back at the apartment

Dinner - anything ie meals out at restraunts

...I would just test, test and test. Your carb counting should be the same as home really, I regularly go on holiday (off to Cape Town in 3 weeks) and I find I need to take more insulin in hot climates and also extra insulin for the flight. Have a great time! 🙂

I'd agree with test test test however i'm the opposite and find I need less insulin in hot weather so it's a case of finding what works for you unfortunately.
You should find that food wise you can enjoy eating whatever you normally do - just keep carb counting and have a lovely time 🙂

Enjoy the sunshine 🙂

Haven't been to Lanzarote or any Canary Islands, but when in mainland Spain, I love eating local yogurts, eggs, breads, fish, fruits, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, ham, salami - only last week, several Spanish runners in Dragon's Back Race in Wales gave me several portions of jamon and salami which they'd brought to supplement the vegetarian food, which was excellent, by the way.

I wouldn't be eating bacon or British style sausages, because I don't think pig welfare standards in Spain are as high as in UK - I know salami and ham comes from pigs, but it often comes from small scale farms, where standards are higher.

Agree about testing, but you may already know whether to increase or decrease insulin doses in hot weather, leaving you just the CHO content of food to consider.
