Hello to everyone
Just got back from my holiday to Crete...where has all the sunshine gone
. We had a fantastic time and stayed in a lovely small hotel just outside Hersonisses (think that`s how you spell it) called Kretur Natur. Maria and George looked after us very well. Maria noticed me giving my insulin one evening and told me her 90 year old mother was also a diabetic injecting insulin, so there is hope for a long life then. No problem through security with insulin, needles etc and didn't need to show my letter from DN. Took your advice and took double of everything in a small cool bag. I was so pleased that I managed to keep my levels stable most of the week (in between 5 and 8), except for the rather large ice cream one evening which sent me soring up to 12.4 (I underestimated the ice cream effect 😱) but it was delicious
. We went to spinalonga on a boat trip from Elounda which was lovely. We also hired a car for 2 days and went to the south coast of Crete which is also lovely. The week went too fast and we have promised to go back to see the western side of the island. Greek food is definitely good for diabetes as they eat plenty of meat and salads with very little carbs. I definitely wont be worried about going abroad now. I realised I am in charge of my diabetes not the other way around. Just one small hitch when after a rather boozy BBQ as I couldn't remember if I took my Lantus before bed.... Took my BG and it was 18.. then I worked out I had just used a face wipe and whatever was in it had been on my hands as after a little panic 😱 and washing my hands, it was 7.4 ... a tip for the ladies there I think. Back to reality for me now and the holiday washing....
