Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hiya everyone. Did anyone ever go on a centre parcs diabetes uk get together holiday?

Didnt know there was such a thing - was it organised for families? Lots of great people on here to winge at! We are all here for each other and get it. It can be very isolating living with type 1. Welcome to the forum

I feel so old now as this was in 2000. It was a group of diabetes of similar ages in separate lodges. It was amazing as met so many other diabetics some in still in touch with on Facebook but loads I lost contact with :( hoping this will have a result 🙂 ty fir your response I'm a serious whinger with regards to anything lol. I'm very frustrated as very limited as to what I can do but daughter back at school soon so I suppose it will be more relaxed x how are you x

Doing ok. Came to type 1 rather late at 42, so only had it 7 years. My 16 yr old daughter was diagnosed on lockdown so feel a bit like diabetes is my life at the moment! It is great to meet other type 1s - the forum does a zoom chat every now and again so do look out for that

That must have been a shock and a lot to take on. Is it hereditary for you? Anyone else in your family have it. Only me in my family. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter. I hope she's coping OK. Difficult enough time as it is :( still now you can support eachother. Ty for heads up about zoom. I just saw this had a forum chat group and thought perfect for meeting others 🙂 I don't know many people locally xx how about you?

Hello. 🙂 That sounds like a really good idea. Did they stop doing it?

Hello @Gemills83 and welcome to our forum.
May be some of your old friends are around on here.
We enjoy a good winge - gives us something to talk about, so look forward to your postings.🙂

Welcome to the forum @Gemills83
I was a much later starter than you (aged 53)

It sounds like your residential had a a big impact. My only experience has been of volunteering in the Family Weekends. It was a fantastic opportunity to support the families but also I found it great to be with so many other people with T1. I had met so few prior to this, apart from the good folk on here. I was concerned that I would be a ‘bit old’ but it was a fantastic experience.

It was fantastic. People of my own age and with people who understood. Was so much fun. I don't know if they still do it :( such a shame but with facebook I've found someone today 🙂 unfortunately for dpa reasons diabetes uk can't do anything which I understand 🙂 ty for the welcome. I'm a good whinger lol looking forward to talking and finding people 🙂 hope you're all well. X
