had two slices of toast with cheese spread on at lunch time reading before lunch was 6.9 injected 9 units of insulin just took reading again and reading of 9.4 should I have taken more insulin

Haha @khskel that's exactly what I was about to ask lol x

Possibly Lesley, are you carb counting yet? Did you take a reading after 2hr? Have you checked that your basal insulin is correct? Sorry for all the questions.

I'm still on set units but do try and count carbs but I don't no how to do corrections I've not been told or shown..no I didn't do reading after 2 hrs..don't apologise for all the questions I would rather the questions so I can correct something if I'm doing wrong.

Lesley I know some people don't get offered carb counting for ages but I highly recommend you to push your team to do this for you, I started carb counting in December and although I'd only been diagnosed a month it changed my life, it's so much more freeing and I've had better blood sugar control since then too, so if at all possible please get on to your team about it 🙂 x

Yes definitely I will i shall phone them tomorrow..I wouldn't have a clue how to correct I've not been told

If you are still on fixed doses and getting those sorts of rises after 4 hours I would seriously consider speaking to your DSN/GP/Consultant to see what they advise. As a rule of thumb most of us would be looking at a rise of no more than 3 from our pre meal reading after 2 hours and to be somewhere near the pre meal level after about 5.

I will i will speak to them tomorrow

Have you had anything else to eat or will you be having anything else to eat, I find it ridiculous that you haven't been told about correction doses, I can't advise you on this as it varies from person to person as it depends how sensitive you are to your insulin etc for me 0.5 units brings me down 3mmol but others take 1 unit or more and it also depends on what your bg is too, you need to get a hold of your team asap and ask them about it too x

I've just had dinner I will check my blood again in two hours...I've been ringing my team every week with my readings and they have all said there very good readings..but I will call them tomorrow and ask about count carbs and correction doses and when I should do them..because I'm totally confused

I wouldn't worry too much about not correcting a 9.something too much, before I had my half unit pen I was told not to correct as 1 unit was too much for me and I've been told not to correct at bed time unless I'm going to have a snack, I went to bed on 10.8 last week and had got down to 6.3 by the morning without taking any correction so don't stress about it or anything, hopefully just a minor blip and all back on track soon 🙂 x
