Hi All,

Does any one else have high cholesterol?

I went to the GP the other day for a non diabetes related thing (friends child gave my bf impetigo and he kindly passed it to me - fabulous!!) and we were casually discussing my pump. I said that my A1c had improved so she pulled my last results up. No exaggeration, she practically jumped out of her chair at my cholesterol result.

I know i have high cholesterol, it runs in my family, and have discussed it with my endocrinologist who was quite blase about the whole thing and didnt really give me any advice except that he didnt want to give me pills because "im of child bearing age and accidents do happen" (charming!).

Any way, my GP has now made me feel like a failure all over again and like im about to drop dead any second. Food seems even more restricted and has once again become the thing that other "healthy" people enjoy!

Ive been cycling every day since, taking pro active yoghurts and cut out anything that has ever been suggested to raise cholesterol. Gone are my beloved cheese and chocolate.

Just felt like i was getting back on track, with the pump having a positive effect and have now had the rug pulled well and truly out from under me.

im sorry i havent been on for a while and now im moaning, but sometimes this feels like the only place to come x

Viki, you poor thing! I am afraid i cant help much regarding cholestorol as i dont know much about it. I just wanted to say that although i am sure it feels devastating news, at least the docs know about it now and can do lots of things to monitor your levels and hopefully offer you solutions. Bev x

Hi viki, sounds like you're doing all the right things, I don't know much about colestral (can't even spell it!) mine was high for a while when I was first diagnosed, I guess your body will take a while to adjust to your healthy ways? Maybe it's good not to be on pills straight away?

Keep your chin up and take your dog for a walk, and let him/her have some treats!

glad the pump is working for you.

If nothing else have more rants here to get them off your chest.

hi viki nice to see you back posting keep your chin up and come on here anytime for a rant we all need them sometimes , i cant help with the cholestrel but by sounds of it your doing all the correct things x

Hi Viki,
i know how you feel, nine months ago my Cholesterol was "fine" then three weeks ago my GP put me on Simvastatin and Ramipril with no explaination. I went to the practice nurse wailing "where did i go wrong? I don't eat any fats!". She told me it was just precautionary beacuse of the diabetes (the acceptable level of Cholesterol in diabetics a lower than non-diabetics coz of the risk of complications). She's just better at explaining stuff than the GP. (god bless you nurse Angela...). Still, that's four bloody tablets i'm taking now. It's also probably in the NICE guidelines, but i've only got the type 2 ones, so i can't say for sure, but it could be an explaination.

For non-diabetics they like it to be 5 ot below, for diabetics it's 4 or below. I've been on simvastatin since diagnosis and my last level was 2.4. I think they see it as 'every little bit helps' - the same reason they have me taking aspirin every day because there's a tiny chance it will do me some good!

Thanks all.

Bit of a bad day yesterday 🙂

Feeling better today. Still annoyed at the fact my body doesnt work properly in yet another way but hey ho! It has got me excercising and that can only be a good thing. (The dog loves it now shes learnt to run along side the bike without trying to lick the moving wheel!!!!)

Woke up hypo 2 days running though. Totally forgot evening activity would have an effect (duh!). Will be digging the old DAFNE rulebook out tonight and start adjusting again.

(Might post on the excercise board for some advice . . yey look at me not being a lazy bum any more and mixing with the fit people! 🙂 )
