Hi everyone so my blood sugar has jumped up from 50s to 80 my HB1C.
Doctor offered new meds’ to bring it down but last time I changed meds to slow release metformin my heart started skipping beats and I ended up in A and E.

So he has agreed to me dieting & exercising to bring it down I’m 3 months. I’m have diabetes type 2.

Usually I wouldn’t worry too much but with this coronavirus I don’t know if that then classes me as vulnerable.

So worried like I think everyone is , any advice would be appreciated x

Hello @Healthier

This is from the US version of DUK, the ADA:

More important is that people with either type of diabetes vary in their age, complications and how well they have been managing their diabetes. People who already have diabetes-related health problems are likely to have worse outcomes if they contract COVID-19 than people with diabetes who are otherwise healthy, whichever type of diabetes they have.

so while there are known increased risks of developing any illness alongside diabetes, if you can work towards improving your BG management, and if you are currently free of long-term complications of diabetes, those risks will be substantially reduced.

What changes have you made to your meals to help your diabetes management? Have you reduced your carbohydrate intake? do you use a BG meter to see the effect of different amount and types of carbs on your blood glucose levels?

Hi thank you so much for this it is helping to ease my worries a bit.
Well yes I am reducing my carbs and I started with a personal trainer.
Unfortunately my husband is very very down , going bankcrupt with his buisness so I am in a very stressful situation.
Also I worry about isolation if we have to do that.
You don’t think they will make diabetics isolate with the elderly.
Think my worries are getting carried away

Hopefully it will be enough to get super healthy.

Sorry to hear what a stressful time you are having. That could well also be having a negative effect on your BG - so do try not to worry.

As for self-isolation... the current suggestions seem to be quite softly, softly, so I’m not expecting recommendations for anyone in the ’at risk’ categories to be announced any time soon.

Of course, some people may be aware that they are already at substantially increased risk from other overlapping health conditions, so may decide to implement social distancing or self isolation themselves.
